Audition dates are:

9/8 - AEA members ONLY.
Appointments made by phone preferred. Include name, phone #, day and approximate time you’d like to audition and union status. Equity Members without appointments will be seen throughout the audition day, as time permits. Once you have been given an appointment time, it will be confirmed by email along with very detailed driving and mass transit directions using Metro-North from Grand Central.

Preparation Instructions
Please prepare 32 bars - Broadway-type in the style of the show/composer that can be fully interpreted with strong acting choices. Performers may also sing from the show/role in which they are interested. Must bring sheet music in the correct key. A piano accompanist will be provided but will not transpose. Charts are NOT acceptable, NO cd’s and NO unaccompanied singing. See complete character breakdown below for more information on all roles.

Callbacks: Wednesday 9/10/14, 10:00 AM-6:00 PM. Callbacks are by invitation ONLY. Actors will be notified by email if they are expected to return for callbacks. Sides and music will be distributed at callbacks; please be as familiar with the show as possible if you are called back and be prepared to move. A detailed explanation of the “new concept” will be given with callback information.

SYNOPSIS: Sweeney Todd is an infamous tale of British folklore about an unjustly exiled barber who returns to 19th century London seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett's luck sharply shifts when Todd's thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up, and the carnage has only just begun!
This provocative, new production allows the audience a glimpse inside the psychosis of a man driven to the edge when he loses everything. A new vision of a modern classic reimagined and directed by WPPAC Artistic Director Jeremy Quinn; the script and score of this production WILL NOT be altered in any way but the time and setting have been adjusted, allowing for the story to be told in a different way.
Seeking to cast a very diverse company of strong actors who sing and move extremely well. Accomplished, alternative looking, uninhibited performers of all types and ethnic backgrounds who enjoy the collaborative artistic process in a highly creative environment are strongly encouraged to audition.

interested in seeing performers who have done the show before. But it is NOT a requirement.”

SWEENEY TODD
(Male, late 30’s - mid 50’s) A wrongfully imprisoned barber seeking to right the wrongs committed against him. He is Johanna's father, singularly focused on taking bloody revenge. The story's tormented protagonist. Vocal Range: F2 - Gb4
MRS. LOVETT
(Female, late 30’s - mid 50’s) An entrepreneurial and amoral meat pie shop owner. She falls in love with Todd and turns his desire for revenge into a profitable business venture. Vocal Range: G3 - E5
TOBIAS RAGG
(Male, mid to late teens or adult male who can believably play a teenager) A poor youngster apprenticed to Pirelli. He finds a surrogate family in Todd and Lovett. Vocal Range: Bb2 - Ab4
BEGGAR WOMAN
(Female, 40’s - 50’s) A deranged and schizophrenic woman who harbors a dark, surprising secret. Vocal Range: Ab3 - F5
JUDGE TURPIN
(Male, 50’s - 60’s) A lecherous public official who portrays himself as a sanctimonious authoritarian. He takes advantage of his position in the city and is responsible for imprisoning Todd. Vocal Range: E2 - Gb4
JOHANNA
(Female, late teens - early 20’s) A spritely girl, full of innocence, constantly yearning for freedom. Todd's long-lost daughter and Turpin's ward. Vocal Range: Bb3 - A5
ANTHONY HOPE
(Male, 20’s - 30’s) A naive and youthful sailor returning to London. He helps Todd return to London and unexpectedly falls in love with Johanna. Vocal Range: Bb2 - F4
THE BEADLE
(Male, 40’s - 50’s) A pompous public official. He is deeply loyal to the corrupt Turpin. Vocal Range: D3 - D5
ADOLFO PIRELLI
(Male, 30’s - 40’s) A flamboyant Italian rival barber; a charlatan with a secret past. Doubles in the ensemble. Vocal Range: B2 - C5
JONAS FOGG
(Male, 30’s - 40’s) The owner of Fogg's Asylum. He sells the hair of madmen to wigmakers. Speaking Role. Doubles in the ensemble.
