Set in Harlem in 1935, Stompin' At The Savoy weaves together the beat of the street with the elegance and theatrics of the legendary Savoy Ballroom; the only dance hall in a still segregated America where Blacks and whites could mingle and dance together on the same dance floor. Inspired by the life of Norma Miller, Stompin' At The Savoy captures the fullness of the Swing Era - juxtaposing hand-clapping games and jump rope routines with Big Band classics.
The producers and creative team of STOMPIN’ AT THE SAVOY are seeking actors of all races, cultural backgrounds, abilities, and gender identities to audition for all roles.
Characters are 16 – 30s. The Jump Rope Chorus weaves in and out of different roles in the show. They are the community, the music, and the people who create the world of Harlem in the 1930s. Proficient in Lindy, Swing Dance, Partnering, and Double Dutch preferred.
