SEEKING:

La Dureza
Rehearsal: 6/9/25-6/13/25
Presentation: 6/14/25

BARABBÁS - CAST (late 20s/early 30s, male, Latino): slight build with a sturdy demeanor. He's dressed in jeans, boots, T-shirt, a reflective delivery vest, and helmet with a visor.

Hit Machine
Rehearsal: 6/9/25-6/13/25
Presentation: 6/14/25

WES (36, male, any ethnicity): Self-educated, self-possessed, and inscrutable. Wes started out as a DJ who worshipped the brazen ethos in hip-hop culture. He worked his way to the top of the game where it’s unfortunately become harder for him to enjoy the very music he once fell in love with.

ALEX (32, male, any ethnicity): A musical prodigy struggling to survive in the gig economy. Alex reveres his brother as much as he's repelled by him. His greatest strength is his sincerity, which gets him into so much trouble. He speaks his truth, but his anger holds him back. He's looking for a break, a safe space in the world.

DEFY (22, male, Black): A fast-rising, once-in-a-generation hip-hop talent. Defy's been making music since he was eight, just like these brothers -- it's his emotional outlet. He's savvy and trying to straddle commercial success with a sound that helped launch him. He's highly sensitive and attuned to his emotions, which is part of his innate talent. It's unclear whether or not the violence in his work is a character he puts on, a way to garner attention and success, or born out of his trauma.

The Hero U Took
Rehearsal: 6/9/25-6/14/25
Presentation: 6/15/25

SPADIE/SMITH (59, male, Black). Actor to play both roles: SPADIE - Incarcerated at Fishkill Correctional for 42 years. A mediator and mentor - takes Ira under his wing. Fundamentally believes in solidarity. SMITH - Parole Board commissioner. Erudite and set in his ways. Speaks in his own form of verse and has no interest in getting to know the people he is seeing at board hearings.

CHITO/HERNANDEZ (49, any gender, Latinx). Actor to play both roles: CHITO - Incarcerated at Fishkill Correctional for 33 years. Has grown up in prison - he went in when he was 16. Never the center of attention but likes to be in the action, always ready with a side comment. Speaks in Spanish. HERNANDEZ - Parole board commissioner. Trying her best to earnestly evaluate parole eligibility and uphold her duties. Knows her stuff and is beyond tired of being steamrolled by her fellow male commissioners.

IRA/SANTANA (19, any gender, White). Actor to play both roles: IRA - Incarcerated at Fishkill Correctional. One of the youngest men at Fishkill, and accordingly naive. Not yet oriented to the culture and systems of prison life, or the world in general. SANTANA - The devil on John Mackenzie's shoulder.

CHOCOLATE/ANGELA (56, male, Black or Puerto Rican): Actor to play both roles: CHOCOLATE - Incarcerated at Fishkill Correctional for 21 years. Rough around the edges, always says exactly what's on his mind. Has a poetic flair. Views it as his job to educate the group about systemic racism. ANGELA - The angel on John Mackenzie's shoulder.

JOHN MACKENZIE (70, male, White): THIS ROLE IS PRECAST.

FREEDOM/SHARKEY/CARVER/TOMMY (74, M, Black): THIS ROLE IS PRECAST.

Foot Wears House
Rehearsal: 6/16/25-6/20/25
Presentation: 6/20/25

ELLIE (30s, female, white): Ten months in the store. Speaks with authority, has some snark to her, snappy and peppy. Doubles as NEW KID.

DAVY (30s, male, Latine): New as of May. Still learning. Enthusiastic and aspiring leader. Doubles as NEW KID 2.

CLARK/BOZ (late 20s, male, Black) CLARK: Six months in the store. Tries hard, a little ignorant, but pro-union. BOZ: New as of June. Ignorantly positive, not political. Doubles as NEW KID 4.

MANAGERS (20s-30s, any gender, White). SANNE - Insufferable, but she volunteers with kittens so you have to like her. BRAD - A camp counselor who doesn't actually care about his campers. ZACHARY - The display designer. Does everything in his power to avoid helping his colleagues out.

ALISHA- CAST (20s, female, Black): Most senior non-lead. Two years in the store. Union Rep. A bit goofy.

AGNES / MARTY - CAST (50s, any gender, Asian-American). AGNES - Newer sales lead. Five years in the store. Unflappable, pro-union. MARTY - Sales lead. Been at the store since it opened ten years ago. Matter of fact, not a fan of the union. Doubles as NEW KID 3.

The Garbologists
Rehearsal: 6/9/26-6/20/25
Presentation: 6/21/25

MARLOWE- CAST (late 30s, female, Black): First week on the job. Confident and competent, both physically and mentally. Keen sense of wit and irony. Vivid inner life; even when silent, her face speaks volumes. Practiced in making you think she's got it all together, but she's guarding a secret she doesn't wear on her sleeve.

DANNY- CAST (41, male, White): Nine years on the job. A little charming, a little dangerous. Mansplaining, dad jokes, and run-of-the-mill machismo thinly mask a profound desire to love and be loved. With less wear-and-tear, he might be attractive — ruggedly handsome, even — but you'd swallow hot coals before saying that to his face.

Date of Release
Rehearsal: 6/9/26-6/21/25
Presentation: 6/22/25

JADE (20s-30s, female, Black): A sister who has put advocating for her brother’s freedom above her own. On the edge of cracking open.

CASSANDRA (late 30s-40s, female, Black): A healer and a great listener. A yoga instructor.
