JOE/JOSEPHINE – (mid 20s, early 30s, any ethnicity) charming narcissist who never sticks his neck out for anyone; dancer and musician who witnesses a mob hit and goes on the lam. Tap dances. Vocal range (bottom-top): C#3 – G4.
JERRY/DAPHNE – (mid 20s, early 30s, African American) the brains of the duo, Jerry’s ambitions are stymied by Joe’s domineering personality; dancer and musician who witnesses a mob hit and goes on the lam. Tap dances. Vocal range (bottom-top): C#3 – Db5.
SUGAR – (early/mid 20s, African American) nightclub singer who dreams of becoming a Hollywood movie star; pretends to be jaded about the world but is secretly the most vulnerable person in the group. Vocal range (bottom-top): E3 – D5.
SWEET SUE McGINTY – (40s/50s, African American) bandleader, a human bullhorn, a woman with incredible drive and ambition. Vocal range (bottom-top): E3 – C#5.
OSGOOD FIELDING, III – (40s/50s, any ethnicity) a playboy socialite millionaire who is always the life of the party but really just wants to find his soulmate. Vocal range (bottom – top): G#2 – B4.
MULLIGAN - (50s, 60s, any ethnicity) - Federal agent and a street-smart native Chicagoan; an easy, wisecracking disposition conceals his tough, dogged pursuit of justice.
SPATS COLUMBO – (50s, 60s, any ethnicity) Mafia boss and club owner; a dangerous, powerful, sometimes violent man; he rules by quiet intimidation.
