SYNOPSIS: Rock got no reason, rock got no rhyme… You better get me to school on time! Based on the hit movie, School of Rock follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn an extra bit of cash by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight-A pupils into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. But can he get them to the Battle of the Bands without their parents and the school's headmistress finding out?
DEWEY FINN
Vocal Range: Tenor, B2-E5
An overly ambitious, rock-obsessed, underachiever. A highly energetic and comedic role. Improvisation skills desirable. Able to play guitar competently. A wannabe rock star with big dreams. Dewey finds himself in urgent need of some cash after getting kicked out of his band. He impersonates a teacher to land a job at the prestigious Horace Green prep school, where he turns his class of straight-A students into a rock group and enters them in the Battle of the Bands.
ROSALIE MULLINS
Vocal Range: Soprano, A3-D6
An uptight and highly strung headmistress of an elite school. Driven by success and prestige. However, inside lives a caged, rock and roll lover. Strong belt. Proper and a bit uptight, Rosalie is the headmistress of Horace Green School. She has a secret love of rock music and yearns to recapture the carefree spirit of her youth.
NED SCHNEEBLY
Vocal Range: Baritone, C3-F#4
Ned is an old friend of Dewey's, and the two currently share a flat with Ned's girlfriend Patti. He used to play in Dewey’s band but is now a substitute teacher who Dewey impersonates to get the job at Horace Green. Ned is still passionate about his music, but tends to let his bossy girlfriend Patty tell him what to do.
PATTY DI MARCO
Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano Belt, Range B3-E5
Ned’s domineering girlfriend, who lives with Ned and Dewey. She calls the shots in their relationship and isn’t too happy about Dewey’s presence in their flat – or his influence on Ned.
ADULT ENSEMBLE
Seeking a diverse ensemble of strong singer/dancers who are comfortable with singing rock music, who will also portray important supporting characters including Theo Doug, Bob, Snake, Mr. Sanders, Ms. Gordon, Ms. Sheinkopf, Gabe Brown, Mr. Green, Mr. Noble, Ms. Bingham, Mr. Woodard, Mr. Janes, Ms. Macapugay, Mr. Wagner, and more.
KATIE (Bassist): Katie is a quiet, serious girl who keeps mostly to herself. She plays the cello at school, but is quick to pick up the bass at Dewey's encouragement. She is stone-faced when she plays and takes her instrument and the band very seriously, although not as much as Summer takes managing.
ZACK (Guitarist, Tenor): Zack is the band’s lead guitarist and also a talented songwriter. He desperately wants to impress his father, who’s usually too busy with work to take an interest in his family.
LAWRENCE (Keyboardist): Lawrence is an unconfident boy, and is also gluten intolerant. He initially believes that he isn't cool enough to be a part of the band, but Dewey is able to convince him that he's amazing.
FREDDY (Drummer, Tenor): Freddy is a rambunctious boy, as shown when he repeatedly slams cymbals together disruptively during music class. He is constantly told he isn't intelligent by both his own father and Summer, but Freddy and Dewey both think that he's intelligent in a different way, and that Freddy's father just doesn't see that.
YOUTH ENSEMBLE: Mason, James, Madison, Summer, Katie, Tomika, Marcy, Shonelle, Sophie
