For PLAYS – please prepare a contemporary monologue.

If auditioning for BOTH PLAYS AND MUSICALS please prepare ONE short song and ONE short monologue.

All should Bring a photo and resume and your book of music if singing. Agent appointments and chorus calls for musicals will be done closer to the date of productions.

THE LAST ROMANCE (LORT B+)

Love can make anyone feel young again, even an elderly widower. On an ordinary day in a routine life, Ralph decides to take a different path on his daily walk. Instantly smitten by an elegant, mature woman, Carol, he turns on the charm hoping for a second chance at love. Defying Carol's reticence, Ralph embarks on a journey to regain the happiness that seemed all but lost.

Seeking:
Ralph Bellini (80) – Vigorous and full of life. Charming, bit of a tease, charmer, struggling with the insecurities of aging, and his faltering health. Once a young aspiring opera singer, he gave up that dream to support his family, he is now widowed and lives with his sister.

Carol Reynolds (70s) – Attractive, proper and very well-dressed. The focus of Ralph's attraction, and while she may be lonely, she is reticent to engage him because of her fear, and also her complicated situation which she keeps from Ralph.

Rose Tagliatelle (70s) - Ralph's sister, a tough cookie, she's protective of Ralph, and very worried about his health, threatened by Carol's appearance, and does whatever she can to break them up, even bringing to light a secret that Carol is hiding. Rose has given up on love and accepts what her life will be. But, Rose is lonely, and wants to have a better relationship with Ralph, because she feels that they are all the other has left

The Young Man (early 20s) – Baby-faced with a beautiful singing voice. The younger version of Ralph; full of hope and promise; baritone, with some classical training, will sing small sections of Italian arias throughout the show, and interact minimally, with his older self.

Novelist Franklin Woolsey dies mid-sentence, but his secretary Myra continues to take dictation. Attacked by skeptics, the press and Woolsey’s jealous widow, Myra sets out to prove she is more than an artful forger. Is she trying to steal Wooley’s legacy now that she cannot have his love, or might she truly possess a gift the world cannot understand?

SEEKING:
Myra Babbage – Mid 30s – early 40s. Secretary to an author. Transcribes his dictation. Precise, intuitive, good-natured, patient. Likes to dance. Narrator of the play.

Franklin Woolsey – Late 50s – early 60s. Author, novelist, ghost/memory. Persistent, precise, adamant, stalwart. Rigorous work habits.

MICHAEL, 25-40, Genuinely suave, no small bit of Elvis in his swagger; true rock 'n roll voice and very strong mover; must be very good with harmonies because he joins the quartet for some numbers, attractive and in great shape; sings Jailhouse Rock, Kansas City, Ruby; second tenor. SEEKING:
EVITA: (Female, 18 to 33) Projects both a toughness and charisma. She is a beautiful, ambitious and power-seeking woman, who rises to become the spiritual leader of Argentina by the age of 26. She is also a woman of few options, who uses her sexuality to build power. A legit Mezzo with a clear, strong mix that can belt to a high G and sing to a low E (below middle C). Must be a passionate and strong actor who dances.

CHE: (Male, 30-40) This character is dashing, impulsive, jealous, and manipulative. Che is the dissenting voice of the Descomisados (the Peron Supporters) and the narrator of the show, a radical who isn’t reluctant to ask tough questions and demand answers. An actor/singer that must move very well with a high, rock tenor voice that can sing a low A to high B, falsetto to high F. Must dance.

PERON: (Male, 50s) An officer in the Argentinean army who rises to become the Argentine President. He is a man who is dignified, charming, and authoritative. A strong actor and singer who can play character/leading man. Vocal bass/baritone to high F. Must dance.

ELIZA DOOLITTLE….20’s, low class, upper class, soprano, with a fair amount of yelling, scrappy and graceful. Whew!

HENRY HIGGINS…30’s to early 40’s, self-assured, self-important, self-possessed, forceful, classical.

COLONEL PICKERING…50’s to 60’s, upper class pomp, with warmth and humanity.

FREDDY EYNSFORD-HILL…20’s to early 30’s, warm and winning, upper class but not reserved.

MRS. HIGGINS… 50ish, upper class, wise and knowing, very understanding. Has gravitas.

ALFRED DOOLITTLE…50ish, cockney dustman, wastrel, idler, layabout. Severe cockney accent.

MRS. PEARCE… 50ish , head of the Higgins household staff. Slightly proper, slightly kind, slightly maternal. Upper class accent as she is upper class but not delicate.

ZOLTAN KARPATHY… 50ish, imposing Hungarian, with accent to match. A former phonetics student of Henry Higgins.

Diana- 40 – 45 Delusional, bipolar, and depressed. The sexiness of her yesterdays has only recently begun to soften. She is determined to make her family perfect but is tortured by a death in the family.

Gabe- 18 – 21 Diana & Dan's son. Dashing, athletic, and bright. He is a playful man and everything a mother could imagine.

Dan- 40 – 45 Diana's husband. He is handsome and genuine. Though a constant in Diana's tumultuous life, he has grown tired and weary of her antics.

Natalie- 16 Diana & Dan's troubled daughter. An accomplished pianist and hardworking student, her struggles are exacerbated by her mother's behavior. She greatly admires Henry.

Henry – 17 Natalie's classmate. The all-around musician, philosopher, and slacker. He has an intoxicating capacity for sympathy and romance.

Dr Madden/ Dr. Fine – 30-40 Diana's handsome psychiatrist. Quite assured in his practice and considered somewhat of a rock star.

Elle Woods – Female - early 20’s, Caucasian. The quintessential California blonde who follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School and realizes that she has more to offer than just a pretty face and a bubbly personality. Gb2-G5 (Soprano Belt)

Professor Callahan – Male – mid-late 40’s. A pompous and manipulative law professor at Harvard. A2-F#4 (Baritone)

Emmett Forrest – Male mid-late 20’s. A smart and sensitive law student who takes Elle under his wing. B2-A4 (Tenor)

Warner Huntington III – Male – early-mid 20’s. A good-looking, but pompous guy who breaks Elle’s heart. Eb3-Ab4 (Tenor)

Paulette – Female – early -mid-30’s. A brash and funny hair stylist who is friends with Elle and longs to find a man for herself. A3-A5. (Soprano Belt)

Vivienne Kensington – Female – early-mid 20’s. A smart and savvy Harvard law student who initially dismisses Elle, but grows to be her friend. A3-F5 (Soprano Belt)

Brooke Wyndam – Female - late 20’s/early 30’s. An exercise video star who is also a former sorority girl. Must be in top physical condition. A3-G5 (Alto/Soprano)
