LOMBARDI (LORT B)

Sports produces great human drama and there is no greater sports icon to bring to theatrical life than Hall of Fame football coach Vince Lombardi, unquestionably one of the most inspirational and quotable personalities of all time. Though football's Super Bowl trophy is named for him, few know the real story of Lombardi the man—his inspirations, his passions and ability to drive people to achieve what they never thought possible.
Seeking:
Vince Lombardi (50-60) – Legendary football coach who becomes an American icon for his ability to win; he is never satisfied with himself and constantly strives to push himself and those around him; he cares easily and deeply about football but struggles to connect to his family.
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Marie Lombardi (40-55) – His wife; strong, intelligent Jersey Italian woman of certain time that loved and supported her husband above all else; feisty and opinionated and loved her cocktails, the only person who can really challenge him and can do so without ever raising her voice.

Michael McCormick (20-35) – A young, Jersey Irish, motivated reporter sent on assignment to spend a week with Lombardi and Marie in their home for a feature story; after the real story, not necessarily one that will make Lombardi happy.

Paul Hornung (20-39) - The “golden boy” Hall of Famer who played for the Green Bay Packers from 1957-1966; an All-American well-known for his charm and good looks; was the first pro player to win the Heisman Trophy, be the first overall selection in the NFL Draft, win the NFL MVP, and be inducted to into both the professional and college football hall of fame. Physically, this actor must believably look like a football player.

Dave Robinson (20-39) – Linebacker for the Green Bay Packers from 1963-1972; had a difficult but respectful relationship with Lombardi; team representative to the Players’ Association; diplomatic and strong, embodies the pride and work ethic Lombardi teaches. Physically, this actor must believably look like a football player.

Jim Taylor (20-39) – Fullback for the Green Bay Packers from 1958-1966. All-American at LSU and unstoppable on the field; quiet and powerful. Physically, this actor must believably look like a football player.

THE STORY: Alex More has a story to tell. A struggling actor in L.A., he takes a job working in the Malibu basement of a beloved megastar. One day, the Lady Herself comes downstairs to play. It feels like real bonding in the basement, but will their relationship ever make it upstairs? BUYER & CELLAR is an outrageous comedy about the price of fame, the cost of things, and the oddest of odd jobs.
SEEKING:
ALEX MORE (25-35, male). An out-of-work actor desperate for a job and a new adventure. Gay, quick-witted, funny, optimistically sarcastic (not bitchy). Must be warm, engaging, funny and disarming. Much of the role is spent speaking to the audience. Actor also plays ALL roles in the play, including Barbra Streisand. It's important to get the essence of each character across to the audience, rather than attempt a full-on impression. Must be fit, well trained vocally and have the stamina to perform non-stop for 90 minutes.

SEEKING:
HANK WILLIAMS – A south Alabama hillbilly singer and guitar player, thin and black-eyed. Constant drunk. He dresses in high-priced western suits and always wears a Stetson.
TEE-TOT – A southern, African-American, Alabama street singer of indeterminate age. Should play guitar or harmonica.
THE WAITRESS – The keeper of an all-night diner somewhere in the south. A cheerful, lonely person.
MAMA LILLY – Hank’s mother. A “Marjorie Main” – strong and somewhat overbearing.
HOSS – A member of Hank’s band, The Drifting Cowboys. A big, boyish man, Hank’s age. Plays upright (“doghouse”) bass.
JIMMY (BURRHEAD) – A member of Hank’s band, plays lead electric guitar. From Oklahoma, especially so in his speech.
LEON (LOUDMOUTH) – A member of the band and a skillful musician on many instruments (guitar, mandolin, etc…), featured on the fiddle. Pleasant and taciturn.
FRED ROSE (PAP) – A founder and executive of a Nashville music publishing company. A Midwesterner from Chicago.
AUDREY WILLIAMS – Hank’s first wife, later his professional widow. A blonde Alabama beauty, sweet and exuberant and sure. Audrey’s singing is mighty questionable.
SHAG – The pedal steel guitarist.
MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET (LORT B)

ELVIS PRESLEY– 20s; male; singer/guitar player; Elvis in his 20s at the beginning of his career. Must be familiar with his music and able to play guitar; should sound and look somewhat like Elvis without being an “impersonator”.
JERRY LEE LEWIS – 20s; male; singer/pianist; he was rock & roll’s legendary piano prodigy and celebrated “Last Man Standing.” Must be a superb piano player, able to play like Jerry Lee Lewis; fun, energetic; comic skills a plus.
CARL PERKINS – mid 20s; male; singer/guitar player (lead guitar); he was the American pioneer of rockabilly music and best known for his song “Blue Suede Shoes”; Must be an excellent lead guitarist.
JOHNNY CASH– mid 20s; male; singer/guitar player; Johnny Cash at the dawn of his epic career. Must be familiar with his music and able to play guitar; tall; should sound and look somewhat like Johnny without being an “impersonator.”
SAM PHILLIPS – 33; “Father of Rock’n’Roll” and founder of Sun Records who discovered Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and many others including Roy Orbison and B.B. King; a towering and charismatic figure in American music.
BROTHER JAY – mid 20s; bass player, brother of Carl Perkins
FLUKE – mid 20s; drummer
DYANNE – Sexy, smart, great rock belt and great singer with a wide range. She was an aspiring singer and Elvis’s girlfriend.

Rose (Female 40’s - 50’s) A domineering, take-no-prisoners stage mother who will do anything to further the success of her daughters in show business. Mezzo soprano/belt.
Louise (Female, 20-30) Awkward as a child and always observant, hides her femininity under the guise of a tomboy. When she finally shines, her unabashedly extrovert self takes over. Mezzo soprano/belt.
Herbie (Male, 45-60) An agent for Rose’s children and a possible husband number 4, has a heart of gold but also has the power to defend the people he loves with strength? baritone, strong actor.
Dainty June (Female, 20-30) Baby June as a young teenager, the older she gets, the less she enjoys being treated like a child, must dance very well, tap, and be a strong performer with a strong belt, mezzo. Ability to do the splits and twirl a baton a big plus.
Tulsa (Male, 20-30) Boy-next-door type, charming, handsome and endearing, strives to break and be a star, strong vocals and dance, must tap? tenor.
Tessie Tura/Ms. Cratchitt (Female, 30-55) An experienced and wisened Burlesque performer. Specialty - Ballet stripper. Ballet skills optional. Mezzo. / The gate-keeper of the Grantziger’s Palace and a battle-axe, not unlike Rose.
Mazeppa (Female,30-55) An experienced and wisened Burlesque performer. Specialty - Trumpet stripper. Trumpet skills optional. Alto.
Electra (Female, 30-55) An experienced and wisened Burlesque performer. Specialty – Light-bulb stripper. Electrical experience not required.
Baby June (Female, 8-12) Rose’s daughter who is constantly being groomed to be the next Broadway star, cute, blonde, high energy performer with a fantastic belt, who dances well, has gymnastic skills? baton twirling a plus.
Baby Louise (Female, 9-13) An awkward, observant young girl, always playing second fiddle to her sister June? genuine, earnest, and charming

MALE ROLES
Mr. William Cartwright — Chairman of the Music Hall Royale; doubles as Mayor Thomas Sapsea, 50-65, witty, erudite, a master of ceremonies with sparkling panache and a dry as dust sense of humor. Carries most of the show’s dialogue and keeps it all moving apace.
John Jasper (30-45) — doubles as Mr. Clive Paget, sexy and volatile, devilishly attractive matinee idol looks with a twisted danger beneath his sleek facade, tenor. Bright tenor quality.
Neville Landless (30’s) — doubles as Mr. Victor Grinstead, handsome, dark and swarthy but no lesser a comedian than anyone in the company, given to bravado over subtley. bari-tenor
Reverend Chrisparkle — doubles as Mr. Cedric Moncrieffe, 50’s to 60’s, sweet and avuncular character man, could be stout, bari-tenor.
Bazzard — doubles as Mr. Phillip Bax and as Waiter, 35-45, thin built character man, mid range baritone, terribly humble, a bit of a ‘droopy dog’ type with superb but “quiet” comic timing. He has a solo number, but he need not have a voice of beauty.
Durdles — doubles as Mr. Nick Cricker, 35-55, excellent clown with vaudevillian skills, a liquor enthusiast, a traditional busker type. Bari-tenor.
FEMALE ROLES
Flo 30’s. — an energetic everywoman with great comic timing- she is wardrobe and props mistress and ersatz stage manager. Young Carol Burnett type. Vocal range can vary though a capable soprano for group numbers would be preferred.
Rosa Bud — doubles as Miss Deirdre Peregrine, 20’s to early 30’s, beautiful but also possessing of fine comic timing, gorgeous lyric soprano.
Edwin Drood — doubles as Miss Alice Nutting, late 20’s to 40. Female actor playing a male character, Nutting is haughty and petulant, Drood is warm, earnest and extremely likable. Clear, clarion vocal sound, belts to a D.
Helena Landless — doubles as Miss Janet Conover, 30’s, Conover is described as “unpredictable,” Helena is fiery and bold with scenery chewing comic flair. Mid range belt.
Princess Puffer — doubles as Miss Angela Prysock, the music hall’s favorite funny, blousy dame of a certain age (50+), the life of any party, she will never be caught reciting Shakespeare. Warm belt, also a sensitive cabaret chanteuse.
Note: Mamma Mia! Is also in the 2017 – 2018 Season. It is a co production with Walnut Street Theatre and Walnut Street will be taking care of the required calls/ casting of that production.
