An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

We are actively seeking performers of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, body types and abilities for all roles.

Please prepare a brief pop/rock song. Bring sheet music in the correct key and a stapled headshot and resume.
Equity encourages everyone participating in the auditions to wear a two-ply cloth face mask, surgical mask, singer’s mask or respirator (N95, KN95 or KF94). Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas are not recommended. Singer’s masks can be found at www.broadwayreliefproject.com/singersmask.
We encourage members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.

ALTERNATE LIST: If all audition appointments are taken, an Alternate List for Equity members will be started the morning of the appointment. Members will be required to show proof of membership in order to add their name to the Alternate List. Equity members on the Alternate List will be seen if time permits.

RENT is a rock opera set in New York’s Alphabet City amid the poverty, homelessness, gay life, drag queens and punk scene that thrived amidst the shadow of AIDS in the late 80s/early 90s.

ROGER DAVIS: 20-25. A struggling musician and former drug addict, he is reminiscent of Eddie Vedder and Kurt Cobain. Battles with being HIV-positive and the death of his ex-girlfriend. Pop/rock tenor.
MARK COHEN: 20-30. Underfunded and underground filmmaker and video artist. He has turned his back on his affluent upbringing and is deep in his own soul-searching. The narrator of the show. Pop tenor. (ROLE IS CURRENTLY ON OFFER)
TOM COLLINS: 25-35. Philosopher, teacher, anarchist, AIDS activist. A computer genius and liberal professor, he is a nurturer with a smooth and relaxed disposition. Gospel baritone.
ANGEL DUMOTT SCHUNARD: 20-30. An eccentric street drummer and a drag queen with an incredible gift of dance and magnetic personality. Warm, loveable, and nurturing. High pop tenor with falsetto.
BENJAMIN COFFIN III: 25-35. Former roommates with Mark, Roger, and Collins, he is now the landlord of the building. Traded in his personal morals for power and wealth. Pop tenor.
MIMI MARQUEZ: 18-21. Dancer at the Cat Scratch Club and Roger and Mark’s neighbor. Savvy and independent, but with dark secrets. Pop/rock belt.
MAUREEN JOHNSON: 20-25. A downtown performance artist. Funny and wild, she is always the life of the party (as long as she is center of everyone’s attention). Pop/rock belt.
JOANNE JEFFERSON: 25-35. A public interest lawyer with wry humor and sardonic wit. Headstrong, smart, and purposeful in all her decisions. Pop/rock belt.
