Seeking:

Janice - Female, mid-30s. Black. smart, observant, protective. A charming storyteller like her father Edwin. An unassuming force like her mother Helen. Janice came of age in Kansas during the 1970s, the only child of her activist parents. As an adult, she lives a quiet life in Ohio with her husband and two young sons. When she receives an invitation to a naming ceremony of a community center pool in honor of her deceased father, Janice evaluates her parent’s activism and the impact it had on their family. Performer should be comfortable with direct-address.

Helen - Female, 30-49. Black. Janice’s mother. Compassionate and engaging. Born and raised in Beacon, Kansas and will spend the rest of her days there. She’s always loved swimming. Consider it a necessary part of mental, spiritual, and physical health. She's invested in the well-being of Black people in her city. She comes from an upper-middle class family. She can navigate formal and informal settings equally, but always feels a bit more comfortable in formal settings.

Gayle - Female, 30-39. Black. Helen’s younger sister. Funny, feisty, world-traveler. While Helen stayed in Beacon, Gayle is the sister who left to make a life elsewhere. She returns to Beacon in her old age to live with the recently widowed Helen. In her younger days, Gayle ran a farm with her husband. She loves the land. This actor will also play: Young Chipper Ambitious Black Woman -- Black American woman. Chair of the African-American Recognition Committee in Beacon, Kansas. She’s a networker and connector. A boisterous Black sorority sister who maintains an almost dizzying level of engagement with her community. She’s organizing the event to honor Edwin.

Edwin - Male, 30-49. Black. Helen's husband and Janice's father. Charming, enthusiastic, optimistic, determined. A boots on-the-ground rabble rouser turned courtroom/legal activist. Protective. Loves his wife deeply. Was very close to Janice when she was a child, but as she grew up the relationship became strained. Was born and raised in Beacon and spent his life there.

SHERLOCK HOLMES - (30s-40s): female-identifying. A true once-in-a-generation genius. Eccentric. Focused, to a fault. Can be less-than-sensitive. Always playing psychological 3-D chess; operating on a totally different level than civilians. Like many geniuses, has a bit of a megalomaniac streak. Gets bored easily; likes applause; smokes weed to relax; sometimes accused of being unfeeling. LOVES costumes and drama.

DR. JOAN WATSON - (30s-40s): female-identifying. American. A formerly type-A high-achiever, running away from trauma and resulting burnout. Recently divorced; struggling to find herself, feels broken. Reflexively defensive. Once had great bedside manner. Sometimes accused of being a loser; is not a loser.

IRENE ADLER / MRS. HUDSON / MRS. DREBBER - (late 20s-40s): female-identifying. Irene Adler – a whip-smart, super-charming sex worker finding success at the highest levels. Follows her own code; bit of an anarchist, ethically speaking. Always playing psychological 3-D chess; operating on a totally different level than civilians. Has incredible charm, confidence, and wit, and she knows it - uses it without mercy. Her sexual energy is powerful; people don’t think clearly around her. You may want to be Irene, or you want to be with Irene; but you can’t ignore her. Mrs. Hudson – Holmes & Watson’s long-suffering landlady. Mrs. Drebber – seemingly an ordinary housewife. Somebody you would be very wise not to underestimate.

MORIARTY / LESTRADE / ELLIOT MONK (30s-50s): male-identifying. Moriarty – a criminal so great you’ve never heard of him. A master blackmailer; knows just when to play his cards. Always playing psychological 3-D chess; operating on a totally different level than civilians. Wears many, many masks. A professional. Amoral, of course, but you’d like him. Lestrade – an inspector newly promoted to his position at Scotland Yard. Not very imaginative. Often says the wrong thing. Elliot Monk – an amoral, spotlight-seeking tech billionaire bro from

Requirement for proof of vaccination/negative test.
Everyone entering the audition venue (i.e., venue employees, Equity members, non-members, casting personnel, creatives, producers, musicians, COVID Safety Managers, etc.) will be required to undergo a symptom check and provide one of the following prior to entry into the venue:
- Proof of full vaccination. “Fully vaccinated,” as defined by the CDC, is more than 14 calendar days following receipt of a final dose of an FDA or World Health Organization authorized or approved vaccine.

- Proof of a negative PCR test result taken no earlier than 48 hours prior to entry into the audition venue.

- Proof of two negative antigen test results (e.g., the first taken the night before and the second taken no less than 2 hours) prior to entry into the venue.
Two-ply cloth face masks, surgical masks, singer’s masks and respirators (N95, KN95 or KF94) will be allowed for face coverings. Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas are not acceptable face coverings. Everyone in the holding room and audition room will always wear a face covering as described above, except for the actor when they are actively auditioning. The time spent unmasked should be as minimal as possible. Face coverings must be worn correctly (covering the nose and mouth). If the risk level for Portland is trending upwards and may rise to High (Red) we will contact members with appointments at least 24 hours before the first audition appointment time to let them know there is a chance that the auditions Revised March 14, 2022 may need to be postponed or cancelled. All members with appointments will be notified if the auditions must be postponed or canceled. (See “Community Risk Level” below.)
We encourage members to prepare for their audition at home, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms

Audition Space Information:

The audition room: 1450 square feet and can accommodate no more than 14 individuals at a time.
The holding room: 2650 square feet and can accommodate no more than 72 individuals at a time.
