Director: Bill Fennelly

DATES:

First Rehearsal: October 14, 2022

Opens: November 20, 2022

For ALICE IN WONDERLAND: A MUSICAL PANTO We are seeking a company of playful, inventive, collaborative, and open-hearted comic actors, comedians, and clowns who are also very strong singers. All will participate in musical theatre choreography, physical comedy, and possibly some light stage combat that will be tailored to each individual's abilities and feature their skills.

SEEKING:

ALICE - female, any ethnicity, 20s. A girl stuck in the “middle.” She is trying to satisfy the expectations of three very different parents, while navigating the pressures of a new school, new classmates, and a tyrannical Headmistress. Underneath her middle school insecurities, she possesses tremendous courage, exceptional smarts, and a big loving heart but it will take having everything in her life turned upside down in Wonderland to unleash her great powers. An excellent singer.

DAD/WHITE RABBIT - male identifying, any ethnicity, 30-50s. Dad is juggling many things all at once and he is always feeling late for everything. He has the warm heart of a loving father but to Alice’s chagrin he has a penchant for malapropisms, dad jokes, 90’s music, and forgetfulness. He believes that hard work is the foundation for success. He wants Alice to work hard, go to a good high school, then attend a good college, and ultimately land a great job. In Wonderland, the White Rabbit is racing as fast as her can to assist the Queen of Hearts while simultaneously trying to protect as many people as he can.

STEP MOM/RED QUEEN - female identifying, any ethnicity, 30-50s. Alice’s good intentioned stepmother. She has always wanted a daughter and is trying (maybe a little too hard) to make a loving home for Alice and her new husband. She shares her love through planning, neatness, organization, and an amazing sugar cookie recipe. She wants Alice to succeed and for everyone to be happy. In Wonderland the Red Queen is a fabulous forward moving, loving force of nature.

MOM/WHITE QUEEN - female identifying, any ethnicity 30-50s. Mom is a famous musical artist. She is currently on a very successful world tour. She loves Alice but knows that a life on the road is no place for a child. She wants Alice to soak up everything that middle school has to offer dances, sports, cheerleading, clubs, friends. Mom plans to show Alice the world during her school breaks. Mom operates for a place of passion and artistry. She believes that everything is possible. In Wonderland the White Queen is living backwards fabulously, meaning she gets younger every day. The wonderful loving power of White Queen is a paradox for Alice – “I was with you yesterday and I will be with you tomorrow, but I can never be with you today.”

MISS HART/QUEEN OF HEARTS - female identifying, any ethnicity 20-40s. Miss Hart is a dour authoritarian headmistress who demands order and compliance. Miss Hart has abandoned her dreams of being a professional athlete to run Alice’s middle school. In Wonderland, the Queen of Hearts is a dangerous vamp of a tyrant who fears that her power might be usurped at any moment.

MEAN FLOWER #1/TWEEDLE DEE - any gender identity, any race. 20-40. Has the heart of a clown. They will double as a middle school bully, a vicious but glamorous flower in Wonderland, and a fast-talking Wonderland brute who is the yin to the yang of their Tweedle twin. They are one of the mean kids, and they love the status and power it brings. Transgender and non-binary actors are encouraged to submit for this role.

MEAN FLOWER #2/TWEEDLE DUM - any gender identity, any race. 20-40. Has the heart of a clown, and sharp comic timing. They are a middle school bully, a vicious but glamorous flower in Wonderland, and a fast-talking Wonderland brute who is the yang to the yin of their Tweedle twin. They are one of the mean kids, and they love the status and power it brings. Transgender and non-binary actors are encouraged to submit for this role.

HATTIE/MAD HATTER - any gender identity, any race. 20-40. Has the heart of a clown, and sharp comic timing. Hattie loves sweets and LOVES to party, party! They are as sweet as their dietary choices. Hattie dreams of growing up to be a party planner. In wonderland The Mad Hatter is a sideways thinking tornado of fabulous, caffeinated chaos. Transgender and non-binary actors are encouraged to submit for this role.

BOB/CATERPILLER/MARCH HARE - any gender identity, any race. 20-40s. Has the heart of a clown, and great comic timing. Bob has the heart of a philosopher. Their family grows their own food, and they probably have the best vinyl collection of the coolest music in the whole town. In Wonderland the Caterpillar probably enjoys ingesting mushrooms as much as they like to sit on top of them. They have a beautiful pacifist and psychedelic heart. A kind of John Lennon antiestablishment type. The March Hare is the fabulous gate-keeping sidekick to The Mad Hatter; they are ready to party, but the party and its guests must always be fabulous; even a tea party should feel like the met gala. Transgender and non-binary actors are encouraged to submit for this role.
