Set in a Western rural town.
The Currys will be a family of multiple races or a completely BIPOC family.
LIZZIE CURRY - The only daughter. She sees herself as becoming an old maid but is committed to her family and responsibilities. Strong, spirited, capable. Passionate, has a joy for life, but yearns for romance. Doesn’t see herself as beautiful. Sense of humor and play.
H.C. CURRY - Father to Lizzie, Jim, and Noah. A good man, a bit of a dreamer, Lizzie’s happiness is his greatest concern.
NOAH CURRY - The oldest sibling. Practical, somewhat self-righteous, rigidly opinionated. Oversees the running of the farm and feels responsible for everyone.
JIM CURRY - The youngest sibling. Looks older until he opens his mouth, childlike dreamer, not too bright, thinks he needs other’s approval, sincere.
FILE - Deputy Sheriff. He carries both pride and shame, tries to be honorable, keeps thoughts and feelings close to his chest, intelligent, smiles wryly at the world and himself, some bitterness leavened by a mischievous humor.
BILL STARBUCK - A loud braggart and gentle dreamer. A con-man who believes in his own cons. His greatest wish is to have the powers he claims to have. Still, he can cast a spell.
SHERIFF THOMAS - Any gender. Sees File’s dissatisfaction and wants to help him. Generous, cares for their community.
WRITE ME A MURDER - by Frederick Knott (Director TBD)
First Rehearsal: June 16

JULIE STURROCK - Wife to Charles, formerly his secretary. An aspiring writer. In an unhappy marriage. Kind, thoughtful, finds much in common with David, falls for him.
CHARLES STURROCK - Started with nothing, now has money and resents the privileged Rodinghams. He is possessive and verbally abusive to his wife. Takes pleasure in the idea of outsmarting the Rodinghams.

MARILYN DUNNE - Abby’s new roommate. Irrepressible in her pursuit of play. Sweet, kind, believes in people, plays the long game.
SCOTTY - An aide at the retirement home who’s also an aspiring actor. Forms personal connections with the residents. Will play along.

Casting note from the author: “The only essentiality is that the characters not be the same race.”
ANTHONY - (17) He is neat, poised, mature for his age. An “A” student, team player, a nice guy. He takes his homework very seriously. When he likes something he’s all in.
CAROLINE - (17) She’s not used to having company, she is sick but mainly just looks a little weak. She doesn’t go out. She has become cynical and guarded but Anthony chips away at this barrier.
