OY! TO THE WORLD ~ CHRISTMAS WITH A TWIST! showcases Jewish composers and lyricists who helped shape the modern-day Christmas that we all know and celebrate. Each iconic tune captures the spirit of the Yuletide season. Featuring well-known hits that have become beloved Christmas standards, OY! To The World is a cultural smorgasbord that celebrates us all.
In this new musical comedy, Shelly Abrams has inherited a shuttered Catskills lodge. He has high hopes of bringing it back with a big holiday show, like the ones his grandparents used to stage. He has fond childhood memories of holiday celebrations at the lodge which mixed Hanukkah with other traditions. He gathers his three most talented friends from the Big Apple and an ageless accompanist that came with the place, and together they provide a mix of cultures to rekindle the spirit of the place with a show called 'Christmas With A Twist,' seeking to recreate the warmth, love, and laughter that once filled the hall in its heyday.
[JOY NOELLE] 25 to 40 years old, White woman. Soprano. Quite the Prima Donna. Think Kristin Chenoweth. Funny, sweet with wit and a little edge. Grew up on a farm but has an Upper West Side / Connecticut vibe. Good with comedy.
[BECKY SILVA] 25 to 40 years old, Hispanic woman. Latina. Alto. Think America Ferrera. Mother is Catalan from Barcelona and celebrates local Christmas traditions such as Tia de Nadal, Father is Brazilian and was raised in the Umbanda tradition. Becky was born in Spain, but her parents emigrated to the U.S. when she was very young. No accent, but switches effortlessly between English and Spanish. Does not need to be fluent in Spanish. Good with comedy.
[ARNOLD SHERMAN] 25 to 40 years old, Mixed Ethnicity man. Baritone. Inter-faith. Think William Harper Jackson. He’s a hot nerd, sweet and super smart. But what he really wants to be is a cabaret singer. Mom is Black and Catholic. Dad is white and Jewish. Good with comedy.
