Breakdown

Note: Actors playing Mr. Tynan, Mr. Olivier, and Ms. Plowright must be skilled in or adroit in mastering a British RP dialect. The actor playing Sean must be skilled in or adroit in mastering an Irish dialect.


Kenneth Tynan:
Early 30s. British. An influential, albeit controversial, theatre critic and writer in the early stages of emphysema. Terrible stutter.

Sean:
Early 20s. Irish. An ever-present, young, eager assistant, trying not to be swallowed up by Hollywood titans.

Orson Welles:
Mid 40s. American. Brilliant but desperate. One of the great film directors of the day, who is trying to claw his way back into the regard of Hollywood and its financial backers. A man of some corpulence.

Laurence Olivier:
Early 50s. British. One of the most highly regarded classical actors in the world, who is now trying to prove he can handle more edgy work. Contentiously married to Vivien Leigh, but carrying on an affair with co-star Joan Plowright.

Joan Plowright:
Early 30s. British. Fresh young actress on the British scene, with some successful credits to her name. Solid, even-tempered. Having an affair with the married Laurence Olivier.
