Local Nashville actors are encouraged to audition.
Full and fair casting consideration will be given to ethnic minorities, women, seniors, all gender identities and expressions, and actors with disabilities. Performers of all races and ethnicities are encouraged to audition.
IF AUDITIONING ONLY FOR NON-MUSICAL SHOWS: Please prepare 2 contrasting monologues together totaling no more than three minutes. IF AUDITIONING FOR
SHOWS INCLUDING MUSICALS or ONLY THE MUSICALS: You may provide either, 1. Two short contrasting songs and a monologue OR 2. Two contrasting monologues and a song (up to 32 bars). Your total audition should be no longer than three minutes.
Please also bring your headshot and resume stapled together.

Violet- Female Identifying, 40s-50s, any ethnicity. Violet is the company’s Head Secretary and Mr. Hart’s Administrative Assistant. She is a single mother and typically stands up for what she believes in. Attractive, strong, ambitious.
Doralee- Female Identifying, 20s-30s, any ethnicity. Doralee is a young, sexy spitfire who works at Mr. Hart’s office. She is proof that there is more to a woman than just her looks.
Judy- Female Identifying, 30-35, any ethnicity. Judy is the “new” girl at the firm, she has been burned by her husband’s affair and is searching for personal empowerment. Insecure, determined, and hopeful.
Franklin Hart- Male Identifying, 45-50, any ethnicity. Franklin Hart is one of the firm’s executives and a notorious chauvinist. He is capable of faking charm but usually shows his true colors as an arrogant, self-absorbed boss.
Roz Keith- Female identifying, 35-45, any ethnicity. Roz is the attentive office gossip queen and snitch. She has an unrequited love for Mr. Hart and will do anything she can to win his approval.
Joe- Male Identifying, 25-35, any ethnicity. Joe is a handsome, young office accountant. Genuine and nice, and smitten with Violet. (Doubles as Ensemble).
Dwayne- Male Identifying, 25-30, any ethnicity. Dwayne is Doralee’s attractive husband. He is very supportive of her professional pursuits. (Doubles as Ensemble).
Josh- Male Identifying, 15-18, any ethnicity. Josh is Violet’s awkward teenage son.
Missy- Female Identifying, 20-35, any ethnicity. Missy is Franklin Hart’s wife, clueless to her husband’s true nature (Doubles as Ensemble).
Maria- Female Identifying, 20s-30s, any ethnicity. Maria is a young and vibrant secretary in Hart’s office (Doubles as Ensemble).
Dick- Male Identifying, 35-45, any ethnicity. Dick is Judy’s soon-to-be ex-husband. An average guy, he is sporting a little less hair and a little more paunch than he did ten years ago (Doubles as Ensemble).
Kathy- Female Identifying, 30s-40s, any ethnicity. Kathy is a secretary in Hart’s office with a tendency to gossip (Doubles as Ensemble).
Margaret- Female Identifying, 30s-40s, any ethnicity. Margaret is a secretary in Hart’s office with a tendency to drink (Doubles as Ensemble).
Tinsworthy- Male Identifying, 50-65, any ethnicity. Tinsworthy is Franklin Hart’s boss and Chairman of the Board. A good man, who may be wiser to Hart’s ways than he lets on.(Doubles as Ensemble).

Ebenezer Scrooge - Male Identifying, 50s and up, any ethnicity. A grumpy, older, unsympathetic man whose great wealth has turned his heart into stone. He must journey through the past, present and future to learn from his mistakes and regain the spirit of Christmas.
Bob Cratchit - Male Identifying, 30s-40s, any ethnicity. A hard-working man who is underpaid but rich in spirit. He is a father and husband and endures poor working conditions in Scrooge’s counting house to provide for his family. He has a kind heart and cares for his family deeply, especially his young son, Tiny Tim. (Also doubles as a Party Guest and Ensemble).
Nephew Fred - Male Identifying, 20s-30s, any ethnicity. Nephew of Scrooge, Fred is a cheerful, outspoken young man who desperately wants a relationship with his uncle. (Also doubles as Party Guest and Ensemble).
Jacob Marley - Male Identifying, 50s and up, any ethnicity. The former business partner of Ebenezer Scrooge, Marley is a ghostly figure who appears to Scrooge to warn him of the consequences of his selfish ways. (Also doubles as the Undertaker’s Man and Ensemble).
Ghost of Christmas Past - Any Gender, 20s-60s, any ethnicity. The Ghost of Christmas Past is a strange, ethereal figure who journeys with Scrooge into the past. This ghost appears as a representation of Scrooge’s memories, and has a gentle and calming presence. (Also Doubles as Fred’s Wife and Ensemble).
Ghost of Christmas Present - Any Gender, 40s and up, any ethnicity. The Ghost of Christmas Present is a giant, jolly figure who represents the present moment and shows Scrooge the joy and happiness surrounding him. (Also doubles as Mr. Blakeley, the Schoolmaster and Ensemble).
Elizabeth Cratchit - Female Identifying, 30s-40s, any ethnicity. The wife of Bob Cratchit, she is a hard-working and devoted mother, who is fiercely protective of her family and determined to give them a happy Christmas despite their difficult financial circumstances. (Also doubles as Party Guest and Ensemble).
Belle - Female Identifying, 20s, any ethnicity. A beautiful and kind-hearted young woman, Belle once loved Scrooge deeply when he was younger. She deeply cares for Scrooge and is hurt by his selfishness and indifference. (Also doubles as Fred’s Wife and Ensemble).
Mr. Fezziwig / Ol’ Joe - Male Identifying, 50s and up, any ethnicity. Fezziwig was Scrooge’s first employer. He is a jolly and generous man, who values the happiness and well-being of his employees. A kind and compassionate man. Ol’ Joe is a seedy and unscrupulous figure who deals in stolen goods and has a shady reputation. He is a figure in the future, dealing Scrooge’s stolen possessions. (Also doubles as Ensemble).
Mrs. Fezziwig - Female Identifying, 50s and up, any ethnicity. The wife of Fezziwig, Mrs. Fezziwig is a warm and loving woman who shares her husband’s generous spirit. She is a welcoming hostess who helps to make her party a joyful and festive occasion. (Also doubles as Mrs. Philpot, Charwoman and Ensemble).
Mrs. Kimball / Mrs. Dilbur - Female Identifying, 50s and up, any ethnicity. Mrs. Kimball is Scrooge’s loyal housekeeper. She is older and no-nonsense, but for some reason continues to work for Scrooge despite his measly pay. Mrs. Dilbur is a laundress who is greedy and no-nonsense and attempts to sell some of Scrooge’s possessions in the future. (Also doubles as Party Guest and Ensemble).
Young Ebenezer - Male Identifying, late teens-20s, any ethnicity. The younger memory of Scrooge, Young Ebenezer works for Fezziwig and falls in love with Belle. He is youthful, kind and full of hope. (Also doubles as Ensemble).
Young Marley - Male Identifying, late teens-20s, any ethnicity. The younger memory of Jacob Marley, he works for Fezziwig and is friends with Young Ebenezer Scrooge. (Also doubles as Ensemble).
Tiny Tim - Child - male or female identifying, 10 and under, any ethnicity. The son of Bob and Elizabeth Cratchit, Tim is frail due to a medical condition and walks with a crutch. Despite his physical challenges, Tim has a kind heart and epitomizes the spirit of Christmas.
Martha Cratchit - Teen - Female Identifying, 16-18, any ethnicity. The oldest child of Bob and Elizabeth Cratchit, (Also doubles as Ensemble).
Fan / Belinda Cratchit - Child, Female Identifying, 10-12 years old, any ethnicity. Fan is the younger sister of Young Ebenezer Scrooge. She is close with her brother. Belinda Cratchit is one of Bob and Elizabeth Cratchit’s daughters. (Also doubles as Ensemble).
Peter Cratchit / Boy Scrooge - Child, Male Identifying, 10-14 years old, any ethnicity. Son of Bob and Elizabeth Cratchit. Boy Scrooge is a memory of Scrooge’s past when he is in boarding school. (Also doubles as Ensemble).

Lemmel, the Stage Manager - Male Identifying, 20s-30s, any ethnicity. A country tailor who becomes leader of the Yiddish Art Theatre of Lodz troupe; naïve in his youth, over time as Asch’s company manager, he experiences the good and the terrible that the world has to offer, but he is never consumed by cynicism; holds fast to his belief in the transformative power of performance, even in the Nazi-controlled ghetto where his troupe performs.
Chana, the Ingénue (Doubles as Rifkele, Madje, Else, Immigrant, Ruth/Reina/Virginia McFadden, Bagelman Sister) - Female Identifying, 20s-30s, any ethnicity. Madje: Asch’s wife - has a discerning mind for literature and an enviable depth of feeling. Ruth: Jewish actor living in Greenwich Village; in love with Dorothee and cast as Rivkele in the New York premiere of Asch’s play. Speaks English poorly. Virginia: American ingénue; replaces Ruth as Rivkele in the New York production; energetic and eager to please and eager to shock her parents.
Avram, the Ingénue (Doubles as Asch, Immigrant, Morris Carnovsky, Eugene O’Neill, John Rosen) - Male Identifying, 20s-30s, any ethnicity. Young Asch: Brilliant Polish Jewish playwright; passionate, rebellious and hungry for change. John Rosen: Connecticut-born Jewish idealist; has written a new translation of Asch’s original manuscript and wants to revive the play for a new generation; will stop at nothing to see that his cultural heritage lives on.
Halina, the Middle (Doubles as Manke, Immigrant, Freida, Dorothee Nelson/Dine, Dr. Hornig, Bagelman Sister) - Female Identifying, 20s-30s, any ethnicity. A respected German actor; she plays Manke in the Berlin production of Asch’s play; speaks frankly and with an air of sophistication. Dorothee: Jewish actor in Greenwich Village and in love with Ruth; cast as Manke in the New York premiere of Asch’s play; sensitive and full of feeling; she wants to assimilate into American culture.
Mendel, the Middle (Doubles as Nakhmen, Immigrant, Harry Weinberger, Officer Benjamin Bailie, Rabbi Joseph Silverman) - Male Identifying, 40s, any ethnicity. Nakhmen: Lemmel’s cousin; traditional Jewish man and member at the Polish Yiddish literary salon. Harry Weinberger: Producer at the Greenwich Theatre; proud to produce a play on Broadway by a fellow Jew; against the troupe’s wishes, he censors the play to appease the audience.
Vera, the Elder (Doubles as Sarah, Mrs. Peretz, Immigrant, Esther Stockton, Madje) - Female Identifying - 50s-60s, any ethnicity. Mrs. Peretz: wife of the literary lion I.L. Peretz; protective, strong literary opinions; dismissive of upstart young writers. Esther: cast as Sarah in the New York production of Asch’s play; a seasoned and professional actor; she’s good at what she does and is frustrated by amateurism.
Otto, the Elder (Doubles as Yekel, Peretz, Schildkraut, Immigrant, Bartender, Judge McIntyre, Older Asch) - Male Identifying - 50s-60s, any ethnicity. Older Asch: later in life, he has retreated entirely from public life; bitter and cynical, he disavows his masterpiece. Peretz: Leader of a prestigious Polish Yiddish literary salon; upper-crust and educated.
Mayer Balsam - (Doubles as Isaac) - Male Identifying, age flexible, any ethnicity. Plays the Clarinet. Nelly Friedman - Female Identifying, age flexible, any ethnicity. Plays the Violin.

Celie- Female Identifying, Character ages from 14-40s, Black. Celie is a radiant survivor who triumphantly journeys through a life filled with soul-reckoning challenges and emotional/physical violence; she is buoyed by a rock-solid faith in God, love and devotion for her sister Nettie, as well as the intimacy-awakening bond that she develops with Shug Avery.
Shug Avery- Female Identifying, 30s-40s, Black. Shug is a sultry siren and juke-joint performer who has seen better days; a former lover of Mister and a good-time girl, whose body, soul, and desire to love again is reawakened by Celie and the intimate bond they form with one another.
Nettie- Female Identifying, Character ages from 13 to 40s, Black. Nettie is Celie’s sister, and her rock; smart, driven, and protected by circumstance; unwaveringly devoted to her sister, she is nonetheless torn apart from her, and goes on to realize a fulfilled life in Africa, which includes serving as caretaker to Celie’s “lost” children, ultimately reuniting them with their mother.
Mister- Male Identifying, Character ages from 30s to 50s, Black. Mister is a deeply troubled man, as well as Celie’s husband and abuser; he is also the estranged love interest to Shug Avery for whom he still carries a torch; eventually he is redeemed by a self-reckoning and atoning for his transgressions.
Harpo- Male Identifying, Character ages from 18 - 40s, Black. Harpo is Mister’s hapless son from his first marriage; well-intended, but often falls short due to exceedingly bad parenting by Mister; falls deeply in love with –and is dominated by his wife Sophia, then later by his girlfriend Squeak; he eventually finds his firm footing and manhood soon after Mister’s transformation and the return of his beloved Sofia.
Sofia- Female Identifying, Character ages from 20s-40s, Black. Sofia is Harpo’s wife and Celie’s friend for life; a full-figured woman who possesses a giant personality, along with an equally expansive lust for life, and a proud sense of justice; a domineering pacifist who suffers no fools.
Squeak/Ensemble- Female Identifying, 20s, Black. Squeak is Harpo’s devoted and fiercely protective girlfriend who serves as his great motivator; she possesses a voice that matches her name with mathematical exactness.
Female Ensemble- Females Identifying, 16-50s, any ethnicity. Any age; strong singers to portray several characters; Church Lady, Olivia and others.

Harriet - Female Identifying, Late 40s-60s, any ethnicity. Harriet is the Chief of Staff. She is a humorless, middle-aged woman who is a political bulldog and lives and dies by the polls. Everything is a means to the end.
Jean - Female Identifying, Late 40s-60s, any ethnicity. Jean is the Press Secretary. She is a high strung, quick-witted woman who can handle any pressroom and sterilize any scandal. A single working mother who is the counterpart to Harriet. She is polished, tactful, but quite cynical.
Stephanie - Female Identifying, 30s-40s, any ethnicity. Stephanie is the Presidential secretary. She is terrified of failure and on the edge of a nervous breakdown. Brilliant but crippled by her own imposter syndrome.
Dusty - Female Identifying, 20s-30s, any ethnicity. A glowing, curious girl who has a questionable relationship with the President. She has a multitude of skills and a very bright future, and she’s determined to make the world a better place.
Bernadette - Female Identifying, Late 30s-60s, White. Bernadette is the President’s sister. She is a total mess and full of mayhem. She has a fiery temper and a fantastic sense of humor.
Chris - Female Identifying, 30s-50s, Black. Chris is a journalist who is newly-divorced, overburdened, and on the brink of irrelevance. She has much to gain and everything to lose.
Margaret - Female Identifying, Late 40s-70s, Black. Margaret is the First Lady of the United States. She is regal, sophisticated, well dressed and very savvy. She is brimming with bitterness and pent-up rage as well.
