PREPARATION
Please prepare EITHER A) A brief monologue (not to exceed two minutes) OR B) A brief song (not to exceed two minutes) OR C) 16 bars of a song and a one-minute monologue. If singing, bring sheet music; an accompanist is provided all day.

DWIGHT DEACON:
Pompous ruler of his home, age 45-55
INA DEACON
Married to Dwight, who many times treats Lulu more like a servant than a sister, age 45-50
DIANA DEACON
Ina and Dwight's oldest daughter who is eager to marry to leave home, age 20-25
MONOCA DEACON
The youngest daughter who quite often speaks the truth, age 12-15
MRS. BETT
Lula and Ina's mother who doesn't care for her son-in-law, although she lives with him and her daughters, age 65-70
MR. CORNISH
A businessman who is interested in marrying Di or Lulu, age 35-45
NINIAN DEACON
Hasn't seen his brother Dwight or met his family since he's been living in South and Central America for 20 years, he's kind and generous and interested in Lulu, but his life is complicated, age 40-45

The next door neighbor interested in marrying Di, age 20-25.

Seeking a cast of 4, who portray 30 characters. Everyone should be able to sing a cappella and play an instrument such as guitar, mandolin, banjo, or violin as there is singing throughout the show. Songs include “There is a Tavern in the Town,” “Turkey in the Straw,” “Somebody,” “Down in the Valley,” “Hard Time,” and “Simple Gifts.” Do not need to play an instrument or sing at the open call.
MAN 1:
Portrays Trainor, Fiddler Jones, Butch Weldy, among others, ages 40-60.
WOMAN 1:
Portrays Sarah Brown, Widow McFarlane, Mabel Osborne, among others, ages 40-60.
MAN 2:
Portrays Rev. Abner Peet, Clarence Fawcett, Blind Jack, among others; ages 25-40.
WOMAN 2:
Portrays Mrs. Merritt, Hortense Robbins, and Russian Sonia, among others, ages 25-40.
