SILUETAS

Book by Erlina Ortiz

Music and Lyrics by Robi Hager

ROLES:

DINORA: Cuban, American citizen, Mid 30s. Conservative and quiet, Dinora has been ripped from her Cuban home and ancestry; she has
survived 20 years in a loveless and subtly abusive marriage. When we meet her, she is trying to start fresh, reinvent herself and survive as an independent woman.

KHALILAH: Syrian, Muslim, student abroad turned refugee, early to mid 20s. Energetic and eccentric, Khalilah is a performance artist who holds her liberal politics and her dedication to her culture and religion in a double helix. She can’t wait to go home.

IAN: 20s: Black American, Philadelphian. Lighthearted and romantic. Working odd jobs with Richard after dropping out of college and disappointing his parents. He goes where the wind takes him and must learn to make his own decisions in life.

RICHARD: 40s-60s. Afro-Dominican, Richard is a workaholic with a big heart. He always seems to move with the rhythm of a merengue or bachata in his soul.

ANCESTOR / MAMA: Dinora’s consciousness, her Ancestor, her guardian angel, her guiding light. The Ancestor shows Dinora her Mama.

ANCESTORS: 20s - 80s; all races and gender identities. Always there even if we don’t see them. More present to Dinora when she especially needs guidance. Instrumental skill a plus but not required.

THE JORDAN AND AVERY SHOW by Jay Adana
