Please prepare a short monologue (2 minutes) from a contemporary play. For Billy Baloo, also prepare a folk / country song. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring your headshot and resume stapled together.

MARTHA'S VINEYARD PLAYHOUSE 2024 SEASON
A world premiere, by Kathleen McGhee-Anderson / Directed by MJ Bruder Munafo
June 24 – August 10 (1st rehearsal June 25, performances from July 12 – August 10). 7-week contract.
Miss Maybelline: 100 years old, Black, ancient, spry, a griot/storyteller.
Trey: 18+ to play 14, Black, to play a sweet 14-year-old autistic teenager who is whip smart, talkative, and a bird watcher. NOTE: neurodivergent actors are encouraged to audition.
Greta: mid-30’s - early 40’s, Black, Trey’s mother, hard-working, single mom / Miss Maybelline’s mother in a flight of fancy.
Walter Bly: 50’s, Black, their neighbor, a former band musician, steady, good natured (hiding disappointment).
Elaine: 40’s -60’s, White, energetic, optimistic, island resident / local bus driver.

July 29 – September 14 (1st rehearsal August 1, performances from August 22 – September 14). 7- week contract.
SYNOPSIS: BILLY BALOO takes place in 1880’s Solderville, the highest town on the highest mountain in the Colorado Rockies.
Billy Baloo: CAST 30s, A mining camp “floater” and a misfit.
Ada Evans: CAST 25 – 30, Educated in the east, an enterprising young woman who returns home after her mother’s death to run The Perfection General Store.
Mil: 50s - 60s, a prospector and resident of Solderville.
Lee: CAST 50s – 60s, a prospector and resident of Solderville.
Doug: CAST 50s – 60s. a prospector and resident of Solderville.
Laura Lindsay: 20s – 30s, A young woman, far from home, searching for a new life. Takes on odd jobs in Solderville, working at the general store and singing in the Elysium Saloon.
Kevin Kelly: 20s – 30s, A first generation Irish immigrant, hardworking silver miner, and labor organizer
