MAURITIUS

Note from the Director - All actors must have excellent language skills. Ultra realism won’t move this script along. Also, a sense for character comedy is a must in this production.

SEEKING:

Phillip - Late 30s-40s. Morose, short, dry and defensive. Thinks he knows more than anyone else. He runs a junk shop which rarely finds something of value and the fact that he is not a famous dealer eats at him.

Dennis (CAST - Seeking back-ups) - 20-early 30s. A charming conman with a big heart who is desperate to score. He has never had a real “find” and senses with these stamps; he may have hit it rich. He is a smooth-talking, funny guy who is instantly appealing to whoever meets him.

Sterling (CAST - Seeking back-ups) - 50-60s. A man with a killer’s streak running down his back. He is all business and is not afraid of using force. Great language skills and physical presence.

Mary - 30s. A seemingly nice simple woman but pushed has a streak of vengefulness in her. She feels like she is being played and wants nothing to do with it. Understands comedy or else it’s all edge.

Jackie - 20s. The lead. She feels she is overlooked and misunderstood. Never really had any agency in her life and wants to have a better world for herself. Through the course of the play she learns to play a very dangerous game.
