BREAKDOWN
Samantha - 15, Korean American. Actor must be at least 18. She’s here because she’s always been in the youth group. Sheltered and naive, warm, loves being part of a group. Movement experience a plus, especially with martial arts (kung fu).
Kyung-hwa - 15, Korean American. Actor must be at least 18. She's here because she is obsessed with Jesus and really wants to save people. Her faith is a central survival mechanism after experiencing trauma, but others who don't know her past often think she's just a goody two-shoes.
Mimi - 16, Korean American. Actor must be at least 18. She’s here because her mom gave her the choice between this and Korean math school. Brassy and bold with a fiery temper, she loves to shock the youth group kids with her foul mouth and sexuality (though it may be a bit of an act).
Jen - 16, Korean American. Actor must be at least 18. She’s here because this will look good on college apps. A lifelong academic all-star, she’s always thinking ten steps ahead…and one of those steps will definitely be an Ivy League college. Insecure about her looks, but since looks don’t matter, she definitely doesn’t care.
Pastor - 40s, Korean American. Charismatic, charming, well-spoken. Quick to anger when challenged. Must be able to play both the comedic antagonist in revenge fantasy sequences and also a complex, frightening and grounded foe.
During a mission trip to Bangkok, the four members of a Korean Christian girls’ youth group discover that their revered pastor has hidden a camera in their hotel bathroom. Samantha is personally wounded that Pastor would do this to her. Jen is worried about how this might affect her college applications. Mimi’s out for blood, as usual. And Kyung-Hwa thinks everyone needs to have lower expectations for men. Their communal rage and disillusionment fuel increasingly violent revenge fantasies amidst the no-holds-barred neon bubblegum sex-tourism mecca of Bangkok. MAN OF GOD is a funny feminist thriller about that moment when girls realize the male gaze has been watching all along—and decide they’re definitely gonna do something about it.
