BREAKDOWN
Donna:
(late 30s-early 40s – the mother of a 20 year old girl) Attractive and free-spirited. A former lead singer in a group called “Donna and the Dynamos” who now owns and runs a small taverna on a Greek island. A powerful, independent woman who also has a surprising and touching vulnerable side. Needs killer pop pipes (sings “The Winner Takes It All”) and solid dance skills.
Sophie:
(18-25) A captivating, complex, totally charming young dreamer who is determined to find the romance and happiness she feels eluded her mother. A free spirit very in touch with her sexuality, she is more like her mother than she’d want to admit…even though she pursues a conventional marriage. Pop soprano with a crystal clear, vibrato-free tone who dances very well.
Bill:
(35-45) May be Sophie’s father. An Australian travel writer with no possessions or strings. Good natured, always ready for adventure. A very fun comic character with a surprising and endearing tender side. Good singer who moves very well.
Sky:
(mid to late 20’s) Sophie’s fiancé. Athletic, attractive, toned and sexy – has given up his life as a successful, young businessman in order to make over Donna’s taverna and marry Sophie. Pop bari-tenor who dances very well.
Pepper:
(20s) Sky’s friend. Helps run the hotel. Charming, loves women, always flirting. Athletic, attractive, toned…hot and he knows it…happiest wearing no shirt. Must be an excellent dancer…acrobatics a big plus. Baritone/tenor.
Lisa:
(18-25) Sophie’s friend who arrives to be a bridesmaid. Very energetic, totally fun, a little kooky. Great if she’s African-American, Hispanic-American, Asian-American, Native American or any non- Caucasian young woman. Excellent dancer and singer.
Ali:
(18-25) Sophie’s friend. Impulsive, fun, smart. Any physical type…excellent dancer and singer.
FEMALE ENSEMBLE
(20s - early 30’s) Females with great pop voices, comedic skills, and excellent dance skills. Attractive beach bodies…in touch with their sexy side.
MALE ENSEMBLE
(20s - early 30’s) Males with great pop voices, comedic skills and excellent dance skills. Attractive, athletic, toned beach bods….able to be both sexy and silly. Acrobatics (aerials, multiple back handsprings, back handspring to back tuck) are required for two male tracks
