Please prepare a brief (1 min) dramatic monologue from Shakespeare in verse. Please bring your headshot and resume stapled together.

SEEKING:

[Weird Sister 1/Gentlewoman] Female. Any Ethnicity. (18 or older who can believably play a child of 10-14) WEIRD SISTER 1: The Weird Sisters are morally ambiguous creatures who may or may not be of this world. At once wise women, witches, and prophets, they could be heralds of Fate or agents of Evil. GENTLEWOMAN: young servant to Lady Macbeth; she is witness to things she should not see.

[Weird Sister 2/Lady Macduff] Female. Any Ethnicity. (18-30) WEIRD SISTER 2: The Weird Sisters are morally ambiguous creatures who may or may not be of this world. At once wise women, witches, and prophets, they could be heralds of Fate or agents of Evil. LADY MACDUFF: Member of the court and wife of Macduff, a strong and resolute woman, not without a sense of humor; a caring and loving mother.

[Weird Sister 3/Lady/Scullery Maid] Female. Any Ethnicity. (30-50s) WEIRD SISTER 3: The Weird Sisters are morally ambiguous creatures who may or may not be of this world. At once wise women, witches, and prophets, they could be heralds of Fate or agents of Evil. LADY: a gentlewoman of the court. SCULLERY MAID: Kitchen maid in the Macbeth household.

[Duncan] Male. Latino, Asian, or African American. (50-70s) King of Scotland. A pious and devout man. Well-loved and benevolent father figure nearing the end of his reign and thinking of the future.

[Banquo] Male. African American, Latino, or South Asian. (40s) A loyal and battle-hardened soldier. A trusted Captain in the King’s army and close friend of Macbeth. Father to Fleance. Unwavering in his allegiances.

[Malcolm] Male. Any Ethnicity. (18-30) The King’s eldest son and heir. A guarded and untested young man, but a shrewd and competent soldier in his own right.

[Ross] Male. Latino, Asian, or Native American. (40-50) A Thane and former soldier, now a statesman. Not without compassion and a moral compass but has a knack of knowing which way the wind blows.

[Lennox] Male. Any Ethnicity. (20s) Young Thane and soldier. Inexperienced in the ways of court. Eager to prove himself.

[Seyton] Male. Any Ethnicity. (30-40s) The Macbeth household chief servant and Macbeth’s right hand man and spy. Duplicitous and cunning, his deferential manner and low status hide his cold blooded, unfeeling nature. NOTE: this role has been expanded and enlarged from the original text.

[Sergeant/Porter/Messenger/Murderer/Lord/Soldier] Male. African American, Latino, or Native American. (25-40) SERGEANT: A battle-hardened leader of the King’s army, risks his life to deliver news from the field. PORTER: Unsavory and drunken servant of the Macbeth household. Witty and vicious sense of humor. Interacts with the audience. MURDERER: a disgruntled soldier who cares for nothing. LORD: a member of the court.

[Donalbain/Doctor/Murderer/Lord/Soldier] Male. South Asian, Latino, or Asian. (18-30) DONALBAIN: King Duncan’s younger son and a soldier. DOCTOR: hardened and war-weary, becomes witness to dangerous secrets. MURDERER: a disgruntled soldier who cares for nothing. LORD: a member of the court.

[Macduff Servant/Murderer/Lord/Soldier] Male. Any Ethnicity. (25-40) MACDUFF SERVANT: chief servant to the Macduff household and unwitting pawn in Macbeth’s plans. MURDERER: a disgruntled soldier who cares for nothing. LORD: a member of the court.

[Fleance/Soldier] Male. Any Ethnicity. (18 or older who can believably play 14-16 years.) Banquo’s son. Young and trusting, just beginning to learn the ways of soldiering; returns with Malcolm to exact revenge on Macbeth.

[Macbeth] CAST Male. Any Ethnicity. (40s) The Thane of Glamis; a trusted and celebrated Captain in the King's army. A brutal and ambitious soldier. His exploits have won him renown but he desires much more. Married to Lady Macbeth.

[Lady Macbeth] CAST Female. Any Ethnicity. (40s) Wife of Macbeth. A strong and determined Lady yet haunted by loss. A worthy and equal partner to her husband, she feeds his desire for greatness with her own ambition.

[Macduff] CAST Male. (30- 40) Asian, North African, or Middle Eastern. The Thane of Fife, a fierce, loyal soldier and loving husband. He has a strong moral compass that can blind him to other’s intentions. Unwavering in his allegiance to the King.
