Troy Maxson was a star of the Negro baseball leagues, but now it’s 1957 and he’s a garbage man in Pittsburgh. In one of August Wilson’s best and most well-known plays, we see one man struggle with disappointment and the effect it has on his marriage and relationship with his sons. This powerful Pulitzer Prize-winning play is both epic and intimate and a must-see theatrical event.
TROY MAXSON – Male, 53, Black. A large, proud man who works as a garbageman. The oppressive weight of the Jim Crow System has worn him down. He looks for relief by having an affair. And to shield his family from the same pain, he attempts to guide them by controlling them.
BONO – Male, 55, Black. Works alongside Troy and his best friend and loyal companion for over thirty years. Bono has long admired Troy’s strength and honesty, but that admiration shatters when Troy breaks his vows to Rose and fathers a child out of wedlock, forever altering their friendship.
ROSE – Female, 43, Black. Troy’s devoted wife of eighteen years, Rose, is the emotional backbone of the family. She works to maintain peace amidst Troy’s anger and controlling ways. Her desire for a fence represents her yearning to protect what’s left of their fragile world.
CORY – Male, 18+ to play 17, Black. Cory, the son of Troy and Rose, believes football is his ticket to a better future. However, his dreams are crushed when Troy blocks his opportunity to play football - his avenue to attend college. This creates a deep resentment, and their relationship comes to a head when Cory finally stands up to protect his mother from Troy’s wrath.
GABRIEL – Male, 46, Black. Sweet and kind, though not fully present, Gabriel is Troy’s younger brother. Wounded in WWII and now living with a metal plate in his head, he believes with all his heart that he is the Archangel Gabriel and carries a trumpet — a symbol of his divine purpose.
LYONS – Male, 34, Black. Troy’s son from a previous relationship. He is a blues musician who scrapes by, living off his music and the support of a woman. Despite his struggles, music is his lifeline; he admits he wouldn’t know what to do without it. He has learned to endure the sting of asking his father for help.
RAYNELL – Female, 7, Black. Troy’s youngest, she is innocent and untouched by the weight of his burdens. Raynell loves her father unconditionally and becomes a source of healing for Rose, who pours all her love into her.

This feel-good, boot stompin’ musical celebrates the enduring power of music and friendship. Armed with only their dreams and a bus ticket, three sassy gals leave their thankless lives behind and head to Nashville to become country music singers. Revisit dozens of pop-country favorites like “Stand By Your Man,” “Ode To Billy Joe,” “Delta Dawn,” and many more.
ANGELA – Female, mid 30s, any ethnicity. A Texas housewife. She has a great sense of humor and a fiercely independent streak. She identifies with “Roseanne,” an earth-mother comedienne. Sings “Stand By Your Man,” “Harper Valley PTA,” etc. Vocally Angela is brassier and loud. Playing instruments and other special skills are a plus. Harmonizes well.
DARLENE – Female, late teens to early 20s, any ethnicity. A young woman from the deep South. She is pretty, sweet, and simple. A young woman who grew up in a coal mining town in West Virginia and the Mississippi Delta. She plays simple guitar. She also clogs (the mountain version of “tap dancing”). She sings “Coal Miner's Daughter,” “Ode To Billy Joe,” etc. Vocally Darlene is sweet with an open, innocent sound. Ideally plays guitar. Playing other instruments and other special skills are a plus. Harmonizes well.
SUE ELLEN – Female, 30s, any ethnicity. She is a “citified” country girl. Smart, very attractive, sexy, and frustrated, she dances, roller skates, and twirls baton (if possible). She also clogs. She should be a great dancer. Sings “9 to 5,” “These Boots Are Made For Walking,” etc. Vocally Sue Ellen is saucy and more “citified.” Playing instruments and other special skills are a plus. Harmonizes well.
