Seeking (all roles are available):

Audrey:

Kindhearted woman who suffers from very low self-esteem. She would take in every stray animal if her abusive boyfriend would let her. The key to this role is to not try to act “blonde”, stupid or vapid. Audrey doesn’t see herself or humanity in terms of intellect. She sees them as how they treat others. She is the living embodiment of the Golden Rule – from the way she lives her life, to the way she dyes her hair. Uneducated and slightly tawdry in her dress, she dreams of a better future for herself, but doesn’t feel entitled to one. Low A to high D, soprano with strong belt.

Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon:

Three kick-ass, Charlie’s Angels-type ladies who are sent to earth to destroy Audrey Two. They are hip, sexy, sassy space age superheroes who assimilate themselves as street urchins to gain access to – and kill – Audrey Two. These women know the score. Strong movement backgrounds with tumbling and martial arts preferred. Mezzos with soul; must be great at singing harmony, with soulful 60s voices that can make you say “A-men”. Theatre states, “Any ethnicity is encouraged to audition—we would like a multicultural trio”.

Mr. Mushnik:

Owner of Skid Row Florists. Perpetually afraid of having to close his business; his worst dreams are coming true as the play begins. Tends to take his anxiety and stress out on Seymour. Can be overbearing and manipulative in the way that those of a certain generation, who grew up hungry and live in perpetual fear of dying hungry, can be. Baritone, low G to high Eb.

Orin “The Dentist”/ Others:

Actor in this track must be a “chameleon, able to transform to play multiple characters. Track’s prime character is Orin, the sadistic, addict dentist who gets off on pain. There is something off about Orin, and he should have a slightly tweaked presence, like he’s not quite all there. He’s very true to himself and open about his extracurricular activities. Think Alan Cumming in “Circle of Friends” – he’s like a train wreck waiting to happen, but oddly alluring in a smarmy-guy-with-power way. Bass/baritone

Seymour:

Our charming, goofy, clumsy, unlikely leading man. He is a boy-man who has accepted his station in life, but inwardly would do anything to get out of Skid Row. Has a quiet ambition burning inside him, but is constantly beaten down. Truly and purely in love with Audrey. Like her, he chooses to see the best in people. Naïve to a fault, Seymour must be beloved by all, and unknowingly manipulated by Audrey Two. Genuine, sensitive. Role requires a clear, pure voice that can sing a variety of styles from legit to soul to R&B. Tenor/ high baritone, low A to high G.

Audrey Two AKA The Plant:

This will be played by an actress who will both be inside the plant and leave the plant as a figment of Seymour’s imagination. Audrey Two is a dominating female who picks up on Seymour’s love for Audrey and learns to mimic Audrey’s mannerisms in order to seduce Seymour to feed her. She is otherworldly, domineering, strong and cunning. Looking for a strong actress who is a good mover, belts, and can control the stage. R&B/soul singer with a mezzo belt that can be both smooth and gritty.

Theatre’s statement: “ReVision Theatre practices non-traditional casting and all ethnicities are encouraged to [audition] for all [positions].”
