Local actors encouraged to attend.
Please prepare EITHER 1) sides for the roles we are casting, or 2) two contrasting monologues. Bring a copy of your headshot/resume.

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of audition.

Equity encourages everyone participating in the auditions to wear a two-ply cloth face mask, surgical mask, singer’s mask or respirator (N95, KN95 or KF94). Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas are not recommended. Singer’s masks can be found at www.broadwayreliefproject.com/singersmask.
Equity encourages members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.

The audition room can accommodate no more than 5 individuals at a time.

Seeking:
Gwedolyn Fairfax - 20s-mid 30s. BIPOC actors encouraged to audition. Self-Confident, unmarried woman, in love with Jack (who she thinks is named Ernest), her cousin Algernon’s friend. Has as a curious, heated competition with Cecily. British RP Dialect.
Cecily Cardew- 18-mid 30s. Humble but witty and surprisingly scrappy unmarried woman, the ward of Jack, and in love with the idea of marrying his cousin Algernon, (who she thinks is named Ernest.) Stands up well to the authority and sophistication of Gwendolyn, holds her own. British RP Dialect.
Lady Bracknell - mid 40s and up. BIPOC drag queens are encouraged to audition. Has an extremely dexterous ability with language and is great at the British RP Dialect. Algernon’s Auntie, and Gwendolyn’s mother, commands the room effortlessly.
Miss Laetitia Prism – mid 40s and up. Cecily’s governess, and chaperone, who may be a bit aloof at the opening of the second act, but by the end of the play must command the stage for the big reveal that she was the one to lost Jack in the handbag at infancy. British RP Dialect.
Reverend Chasuble – THIS ROLE IS PRE-CAST. the reverend who is hired by both Jack and Algernon to christen them under the name Ernest. Infatuated with Miss Prism.
Jack Worthing - 20s-40s. THIS ROLE IS PRE-CAST seemingly responsible and respectable young man, owns a country estate. Goes by “Jack” in the country and “Ernest” in London. British RP Dialect.
Algernon Moncrieff - 20s-40s. THIS ROLE IS PRE-CAST witty man-about-town, one can see how he would be Gwendolyn’s cousin. The nephew of Lady Bracknell. He pretends to be the brother of his friend Jack Worthing so that he may meet Cecily, Jack's ward. British RP Dialect.
Lane/Merriman 20s-50s. THIS ROLE IS PRE-CAST the witty servant of Algernon in London, upkeeps the status quo and knows how to throw shade when Algie isn’t paying attention. Merriman is the witty servant in the country, who similarly is aware when drama is brewin and can subtly comment on what’s going on, within their social status in the play. British RP Dialect.

Seeking:
Romeo - 20s-mid 30s. BIPOC. On a higher plane than the rest of us, his friends, and family. He finds the yin to his yang in the imaginative but practical & action-oriented Juliet. A poet at heart. A fearless romantic at all costs. Confident and comfortable with Shakespearean language, and able to stage-fight.
Paris / Escalus / As Cast - 20s - 40s. BIPOC. Non-binary actors are encouraged to submit for this role. The appropriate match to Juliet in the eyes of the Capulets, able to dance and stage fight. Prince Escalus has command, grace and stature, over an outdoor audience, and the entire cast. Embodies a confident leader and fair judge of the citizens of Verona.
Nurse / Montague/ As Cast - mid 40s and up - The Nurse is the only female role model Juliet has had, in this cut of Romeo & Juliet. She must hold her status firmly, next to Capulet. Has comic and dramatic chops, and comfort with Shakespearean language.
Benvolio / As Cast - 20s-mid 30s - THIS ROLE IS PRE-CAST. Romeo’s best friend, and the one responsible for the clarity of the story and how it unfolds. Must sword fight and have comfort with Shakespearean language.
Mercutio / As Cast - 20s - mid 30s. THIS ROLE IS PRE-CAST. Romeo’s other best friend, on another plane, a different one than Romeo, but he/she/they is one that loves life, and can carpe diem at any moment. Must sword fight and have comfort with Shakespearean language.
Friar Lawrence / As Cast - 40s-60s. THIS ROLE IS PRE-CAST. Romeo’s primary confidant. In this version, is extremely prominent in the unfolding of the plot from start to end. Must know stage combat and have comfort with Shakespearean language and direct address.
Capulet / As Cast - 50s-70s. THIS ROLE IS PRE-CAST. Juliet’s father, extremely headstrong and the only parent figure Juliet has had, in this version. Has superb use of Shakespearean language.
Juliet / As Cast - 20s-mid 30s. THIS ROLE IS PRE-CAST The yin to Romeo’s yang, Juliet is imaginative but extremely practical and makes the marriage happen! It’s clear that she is Capulet’s issue, as she’s also headstrong. She’s connected to a higher cosmos than her fellow Capulets. Must stage fight and have superb use of Shakespearean language.
Tybalt / As Cast 20s-40s. THIS ROLE IS PRE-CAST A defender of the feud between the Capulets and Montagues. Must sword fight well. “The King of Cats.” Headstrong, like his/her/their cousin and his/her/their uncle. Passionate and loyal.
