BREAKDOWN
Hadeel
Female, late 20s- early 30s. A Syrian woman torn by the love of two men. Impulsive and unsure. Also plays Andrea: an American actress.
Youssif
Male, late 20s- early 30s. A Syrian man hopelessly in love with his best friend's girlfriend who sets out to win her. Passionate, determined. Also plays Daniel: an American actor.
Ahmed
Male, late 20s- early 30s. A Syrian man, ready to propose to his love, who becomes aware that his best friend has beat him to it. Earnest, hopeful. Also plays Martin: an American actor.
Bana
Female, late 20s- early 30s. A Syrian soap opera actress who discovers she’s been betrayed by her best friends and country. Has underlying anger and heartache. Also plays Laura: an American director and actress. As a director, she’s a little over her head.
Woman
Female, 20s-30s. Syrian or otherwise Middle Eastern. Speaks in Arabic. From the tenuous safety of a refugee camp, she tries to communicate the intent of the play within the play and the reality of the characters and life in a war zone. Works to keep her opinions and suffering to herself.
Interpreter
Male or Female, 20s-30s. A young man or woman who works at an international NGO. Speaks Arabic and English. Tries to be a neutral intermediary.
