MEMBERS OF THE ENSEMBLE WILL COVER THE FOLLOWING PRINCIPAL ROLES:
ANN - 20s Vocal style: strong R&B, pop belt, she should also have an intimate, sweet mix sound.
A farm girl who comes to New York city full of dreams to be an actress and finds her dreams dashed by closed doors and the poverty of the Depression. Her ambition tears at her moral framework as she embarks on a transcontinental adventure that changes her life. Her combination of fierce determination to succeed, courage and empathy make her a force to be reckoned with.
CARL - late 20s - late 30s Strong contemporary Baritone Can be any ethnicity. An aspiring filmmaker who wants to make dreams, create wonder and become the most powerful film director in the world. An adventurer who finds romance in high seas and faraway lands and will do anything no matter how callous or morally reprehensible to achieve greatness. He is fun and funny - unaware of the impact his actions have on others.
LUMPY 30s - 40s strong character Baritone. A lovely man, who has been slapped in the face more times than a clown and has the face to prove it. Lumpy always gets up and gets on, and tries to do his best. Has worked with Carl for many years, mostly because Carl keeps him paid; but unlike others who are swept up in Carl's latest promises, Lumpy remains a realist and a moral man. He knows what is right and tries to uphold it.
