JO BOUILLON:
35-45, French, Josephine's conductor and mentor, in love with Josephine but represses those feelings, handsome in an off-beat way, radiates sexuality, good singer/crooner
PRINCE GUSTAV VI:
45-55, elegant, masculine Crown Prince of Sweden, finds Josephine constantly amusing, completely taken with her uninhibited, fancy-free manner. Must be an excellent singer.
BRICKTOP:
35-50, Brassy, African American singer, loads of personality and humor.
JOUJOU:
30-45, Josephine's dresser. Can flip from flamboyant wise-cracking to a more serious masculine self, very funny, very good singer.
SVEN:
38-45, Swedish, the Prince's valet, a dry but funny character actor who sings well.
YOUNG JOSEPHINE:
9-12, wide eyed feisty little African-American girl who dreams of a better life for herself, must have a powerful singing voice.
BESSIE SMITH/MOMMA:
late 30's, featured ensemble member who plays role of the iconic blues singer and Josephine's Momma, plus u/s the role of Bricktop
HERMANN GOERING/ENSEMBLE:
Ensemble role, will also plays 50’s Nazi German Reich Marshall, burly, face-worn, a frightening buffoon but always threatening.
