We are seeking a diverse cast of talented and committed performers ages 10 and older. All roles are available to actors of any age and ethnicity.
JOSEPH: Male, Tenor – Eleventh and favorite son of Jacob. Confident and charming. Vocally strong. 20 – 40.
NARRATOR: Male or Female, Tenor or Soprano – The audience’s guide through the story. The narrator tells Joseph’s story. Able to command the stage while directing focus to story elements. Strong singer with great energy.
PHARAOH: Male or Female, Baritone or Mezzo – Egypt’s ruler, considered a god on earth. Searching for the meaning behind his/her dreams. Portrayed as a world-famous rock star. Full of energy and confidence. May double as a member of the greater ensemble.
POTIPHAR: Male, Baritone – Rich, self-indulgent, and sophisticated Egyptian capitalist. Makes Joseph the leader of his household. Strong character with a powerful speaking voice. May double as a member of the greater ensemble.
MRS. POTIPHAR: Female, Alto – Indulgent and confident in her pursuit of what she wants, which at this time happens to be Joseph. May double as a member of the greater ensemble.
JACOB: Male, Baritone – Aged father of Joseph and his 11 brothers. Strong character who can sing and move well. 50 and up.
BUTLER: Male or Female, Tenor or Mezzo – Pharaoh’s right hand. While in jail, Joseph interprets the Butler’s dreams to a positive outcome. May double as a member of the greater ensemble.
BAKER: Male or Female, Tenor or Mezzo – Head of Pharaoh’s kitchen. While in jail, Joseph interprets the Baker’s dreams to a less-than-positive outcome. May double as a member of the greater ensemble.
JOSEPH’S BROTHERS: Male, Various Ranges – Jealous of Joseph being their father’s favorite son. Skilled dancers and singers.
WIVES: Female, Various Ranges – Skilled dancers and singers. Will also double as general ensemble in some scenes.
CHILDREN’S CHORUS: Male and Female, 8 and older. Strong singers. Learning about the story of Joseph from the Narrator. - NOTE: Auditions for the Children's Chorus will take place at a later date.
Eliza: (age 25 - 35) SOPRANO. The cockney flower girl who Professor Higgins tries to educate. She is warm, high-spirited, unconventional, and self-reliant. (A Cockney accent as well as standard British). Vocal range: A3 - G5.
Henry Higgins: (age 40 - 60) BARITONE. The self-absorbed, aristocratic professor of linguistics attempts to transform a cockney flower girl, Eliza, into a well-bred lady. He is eccentric, independent, energetic, and cares more about intellect than emotion. Vocal range: B flat 2 - E4.
Colonel Pickering: (age 50+) BARITONE. A retired British officer with colonial experience and the amiable linguist friend of Professor Higgins. Vocal range: C3 - D4.
Alfred Doolittle: (age 50+) BARITONE. Eliza's fun-loving, free-thinking father. He is a good-natured rascal with many friends and never passes up a free drink. Vocal range: G3 - E4. A good mover. Cockney accent.
Freddy Eynsford-Hill/Ensemble: (age 25 to 40) TENOR/ HIGH BARITONE. An upper-class young man who becomes completely smitten with Eliza. Vocal range: C3 - F4. A good mover.
Mrs. Higgins/Ensemble: (age 50+) Professor Higgins’ self-assured, wealthy, and elegant mother.
Mrs. Pearce/Ensemble: (age 40+) Professor Higgins’ housekeeper, who acts as a surrogate mother to Eliza. Vocal range: E4 - G4.
Ensemble: A versatile ensemble of actors, singers, and dancers who will take on multiple roles as servants, aristocrats, musicians, and working men and women.
