SEASON OF THE REBELLIOUS & THE ROYAL
Moose Hall Theatre Company is casting Inwood Shakespeare Festival’s sixteenth annual summer season of acclaimed free outdoor theatre in Inwood Hill Park. Season includes Hamlet (runs June 3-20) & HENRY IV, (runs July 15-August 1) Actively seeking multi/cultural non-traditional casts for both projects. Ted Minos, Producing Artistic Director. HAMLET
by William Shakespeare. Director, Ted Minos.
Seeking artists with classical experience, and movement skills. All roles open. Actively seeking non-traditional multicultural cast.

HAMLET:
20’s thru late 30’s. True heir to the thrown of Denmark. Intense, mercurial temperament. Intellectual genius. Strong language, movement and stage fighting sills.
KING CLAUDIUS:
Murdered Hamlet’s father to gain the thrown and Gertrude. Significant tactician. His guilt is overridden by love of Queen and Power.

QUEEN GERTRUDE:
Widow of Hamlet’s father and newly betrothed wife of Claudius. Unsuspecting of Claudius’ patricide. Chooses to remain vital in the court. Disturbed by Hamlet’s anguish. Emotional depth.

POLONIOUS:
Lord. Advisor to the King. Father of Laertes and Ophelia. Strong comic nuances of character, a tedious rhetoric. Micromanaging his children’s lives and insinuation into the King’s domestic life, has terrible consequences.

HORATIO:
20’s thru late 30’s. Hamlet’s trusted friend from University. A strong moral center amidst the dubious politics of Denmark.

OPHELIA:
Young adult. Beautiful and highly sensitive daughter of Polonius. Was clearly loved by Hamlet. Driven to madness by the machinations of her father and Hamlet.

LAERTES:
20’s thru late 30’s. Son of Polonius, brother of Ophelia. A “noble” youth, manipulated to revenge by Claudius for Hamlet’s killing of Polonius and Ophelia’s madness.

THE GHOST:
The specter of Hamlet’s father. Confirms Hamlet’s fears about Claudius. Sets the Revenge tragedy into play.

ROSENCRANTZ & GUILDENSTERN:
20’s thru late 30’s. Courtiers. University chums of Hamlet. Paid informants for Claudius.

OSRIC:
Comic. Somewhat flamboyant “waterfly”, but an accommodating ambassador.

GRAVEDIGGER:
Long experience has endowed him with deep “earthy” acceptance of death and a gallows humor.

FORTINBRAS:
Successfully amasses an army to war with the King. Assumes the throne of Denmark.

BERNARDO / MARCELLUS:
Loyal officers of Denmark. First to see Ghost. Trusted by Hamlet and Horatio.

FRANCISCO:
Soldier & guardsman of Elsinore.

PLAYER KING:
Experienced leader of a well-known iterant acting troop. Excellent actor.

VOLTEMOND:
Courtier. Claudius sends to Norway as ambassador to prevent Fortinbras’s attack.

HENRY IV (Parts 1 & 2 condensed):
by William Shakespeare
Director, Ted Minos.

Seeking artists with classical experience and movement skills. Stage fight skills a plus. All roles open. Actively seeking non-traditional multicultural cast.

SIR JOHN FALSTAFF:
Prince Hals executive of debauchery. Fat 50’s – 60’s. a thief, highwayman, and charming freeloader. Genius in equivocation, a monumental dauntless wit. Charismatic. Infectious humor at his worst. Tremendous depth and insight at his best.

HENRY (HAL) PRINCE OF WALES:
Wayward son the King Strategically transitioning towards great maturity and honor. Fight skills.

HENRY PERCY (HOTSPUR):
Tremendous energy, quick to anger, brash, single-minded, fixed upon honor, war above romance. Must have Fight skills.

KING HENRY IV:
The ruling king of England. Contending with civil war in this play. Vexed by antics of his eldest son Prince Hal.

EARL OF WESTMORELAND:
A nobleman and military leader who is a close companion and valuable ally of King Henry IV

JOHN OF LANCASTER:
Younger brother of Prince Harry. John proves himself wise and valiant in battle

LORD CHIEF JUSTICE:
The most powerful official of the law in England. Initially at odds with Hal. Becomes Hals trusted advisor. Steady intelligent rational.

PISTOL:
Eccentric, erratic, comic character. Never know when he will “go off”.

BARDOLPH:
Insatiable drinker, distinguished by a bright red nose. Comic

DOLL TEARSHEET:
Falstaff's favorite prostitute friend of Mistress Quickly Fierce, smart quick with invective, tough.

MISTRESS QUICKLY:
Hostess of the Boars Head Tavern – practical sense of self-worth and will defend her value, often vexed willing to invest in life.

NED POINS:
Boisterious rascall. Tavern companion of Hal’s. Instigator and collaborator of mischief’s.

FRANCIS:
Comic. Tavern server, pawn to Hal’s pranks.

FANG:
Comic incompetent officer of the law

PETO:
Comic. Low life crony of Falstaff

JUSTICE SHALLOW:
Comic. Seemingly a dotard but Intelligent with a controlled raunchy sensibility

JUSTICE SILENCE:
Friend of Shallow. Understated. Comic.

DAVY:
Loquacious honest servant to Justice Shallow.

THOMAS PERCY, EARL OF WORCESTER:
Rebel Hotspur’s uncle. Shrewd and manipulative,

OWEN GLENDOWER:
Leader of the Welsh rebels and the father of Lady Mortimer. Professes magical powers.

LADY PERCY:
Hotspur’s wife. Sister of Mortimer. Profound love for husband. Challenges Hotspur for physical, emotional and intellectual intimacy

EDMUND MORTIMER:
Rebel. Married Glendower’s daughter. Cannot speak or understand her language Lady Percy’s brother.

LADY MORTIMER
Loving Wife of Mortimer. Speaks/sings in Welsh.

PERCY, EARL OF NORTHUMBERLAND:
Rebel. Hotspur’s father pragmatic conspiratorial

EARL OF DOUGLAS (The Douglas):
Rebel. Deadly, feared Scottish Klan chief. Courageous Warrior.

HASTINGS:
A rebel leader.
