All ages, races and ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations and abilities are encouraged to audition.
For the plays, please prepare two 1.5-minute contrasting contemporary monologues. For the musicals, please prepare two brief contrasting contemporary musical theatre pieces. If auditioning for both, prepare two 1-
minute contrasting contemporary monologues and two brief contemporary musical theatre pieces. Also, please bring your headshot and resume stapled together. If you are unable to attend one of these calls you may submit a video audition. Video submissions will be accepted until June 3 and should be emailed to Tara Lail at: tara@humanracetheatre.org .

SYNOPSIS: This fast-paced romp re-examines the world’s most famous detective story with a bold
new feminist lens. In this highly theatrical escapade, oddball female roommates Sherlock (yes, it’s
also a girl’s name—wait, is it a girl’s name? Is it even a name?) Holmes & Joan Watson join forces.
They emerge from the pandemic fog as a deeply codependent, quasi-dysfunctional Odd Couple
adventure duo—solving mysteries and kicking butts, until they come face-to-face with a villain who
seems to have all of the answers.
Ms. Joan Watson: female-identifying, 30s – 50s. American. Formerly type-A high-achiever. Recently divorced; struggling to find herself, feels broken. Reflexively defensive. Once had great bedside manner. Sometimes accused of being a loser; is not a loser. Wry. Smart.
Moriarty, Inspector Lestrade & Elliot Monk: male-identifying, 30s – 50s.
Moriarty: a criminal so great you’ve never heard of him. A master blackmailer; knows just when to play his cards. Always playing psychological 3-D chess; operating on a different level than civilians. Wears many masks. A professional. Amoral, but you’d like him.
Lestrade: an inspector new to his position at Scotland Yard. Not very imaginative. Often says the
wrong thing.
Elliot Monk: an amoral tech billionaire from Texas.
Irene Adler, Mrs. Hudson, & Mrs. Drebber: female-identifying, late 20s – 40s.
Irene Adler: a whip-smart, super-charming sex worker finding success at the highest levels. Always playing psychological 3-D chess; operating on a totally different level than civilians. Has incredible charm, confidence, and wit, and she knows it—uses it without mercy. You may want to be Irene, or you may want to be with Irene; but you can’t ignore her.
Mrs. Hudson: Holmes & Watson’s long-suffering landlady.
Mrs. Drebber: seemingly an ordinary housewife. Somebody you would be very wise not to underestimate.
Ms. Sherlock Holmes: female-identifying, 30s – 40s. A once-in-a-generation genius. Eccentric. Focused, to a fault. Can be less-than-sensitive. Always playing psychological 3-D chess; operating on a totally different level than civilians. Like many geniuses, has a megalomaniac streak. Gets bored easily; likes applause; sometimes accused of being unfeeling. LOVES costumes and drama.

SYNOPSIS: In this world premiere farce, Mark Brown takes on winter with a twist! Sharon Frosty, Frosty the Snowman’s wife, knows he’s up to no good and follows his trail to the North Pole. Will she catch him in the act?
Sharon Frosty – female identifying, 30s – 50s depressed, desperate, jades.
Mrs. Claus – female identifying, 30s – 50s vivacious, sexy, breezy.

SYNOPSIS: In the tranquil hush of a library that straddles the U.S. – Canada border, life is about to change. When an Iranian father and daughter, separated by the international border, start using the library as a meeting place, the French-Canadian librarian, an American customs agent, and a local teenager find their quiet lives suddenly full of excitement and consequence. Inspired by true events, A Distinct Society is a touching and funny new play about the many things – family, food, art, love, and politics – that can either divide or unite us.
Peyman Gilani – Male identifying in his 50s. Iranian. A cardiac surgeon. Speaks with a Persian accent, He is grounded.
Manon Desjardins – Female identifying in her 40s. White French-Canadian. The Head Librarian at the Haskell Free Library. Speaks with a Québécois accent. She is enigmatic.
Declan Sheehan – Male identifying, 15-year-old boy. White Canadian. A high school student, The child of Northern Irish immigrants to Québec. Speaks with the slightest hint of a Canadian accent. He is lonely.
Bruce Laird – Male identifying in his mid-to-late 30s. Black American. A U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agent. He is charming.
Shirin Gilani – Female identifying in her mid-20s. Iranian. Peyman’s daughter. A medical student. Her Persian accent is milder than her father’s. She is forthright.

SYNOPSIS: Embark on a majestic journey to a realm where honor, dignity, and morality pave the way for a new era under the youthful King Arthur's reign. This tightly focused adaptation of the classic musical Camelot breathes new life into the legendary love triangle with the same musical favorites “If Ever I Would Leave You,” “The Lusty Month of May,” “I Loved You Once In Silence,” and “Camelot”. A note from the Director: Voice types and ranges are suggestions in traditional ranges for guidance.
Non-binary and gender fluid artists are encouraged to audition.

SYNOPSIS: As the sun sets on the eve of their twentieth high school reunion, a close-knit group of
former classmates—once known as the “Multi-Ethnic Reject Group”—reunites to pre-game the
monumental night. Bonded in their youth as outsiders, they now navigate the complexities of
adulthood with humor, heart, and a hint of nostalgia.
Emilio – He/Him, any ethnicity, mid to late 30s. A Berlin-based installation artist who has spent the last two years becoming accustomed to being a father, or as he would describe it, his “COVID Project.”
Ursula – She/Her, any ethnicity, mid to late 30s, visually impaired. The residue of her grandmother’s passing and a failed surgical attempt to save her eye has left her with a hesitancy for life, so much so that she refuses to attend the twenty-year reunion.
Caitlin – She/Her, any ethnicity, mid to late 30s. A stepmother to the children of a well-known congressman. Death pluralizes itself in her life through a string of multiple miscarriages.
Kristina – She/Her, any ethnicity, mid to late 30s. A derma surgeon whose marriage to a resentful general surgeon has perceivably driven her from a “straightedge” identity to a drinking habit that is cause for worry.
Francisco – He/Him, any ethnicity, mid to late 30s. A medically discharged military serviceman. His accident has left him with seizure-inducing PTSD.
