A note about casting: All actors will need to be very movement oriented; the production will feature a lot of physicality in its staging. All characters are WITTY and can turn on a dime. Great senses of humor a must for all. All will play additional roles to the roles listed below.
SEEKING:
DR. HENRY JEKYLL: CAST.
ELIZABETH JELKES: Female. Late 20s-mid 30s. Strong, brave, sexually daring – real attitude, has worked her whole life to make herself independent, and is looking for more adventure than her limited opportunities seem to provide. British accent.
ENFIELD/HYDE 2/SIR DANVERS CAREW/SANDERSON: Male. Late 40s-late 50s. Arrogant, all knowing. As Enfield feels some warmth and friendship towards Dr. Jekyll, but knows he knows better than anyone. British accent.
DR. LANYON/HYDE 3/POLICE DOCTOR: Male. 40s. Cheerful, optimistic, exuberant. Is an ideal friend, easy to be with, always trusting. British accent.
POOLE/HYDE 4/MAID: Female. 40s. Poole is the head of household for Dr. Jekyll. Even tempered, cool headed, wise, matronly woman. But also becomes Mr. Hyde, and exercises acts of violence while occasionally still showing the gentle side of these awful acts. British accent.
UTTERSON/ HYDE 1: CAST. Male. 40s. Closest friend to Jekyll, wise and careful. British accent.

SEEKING:
MEMPHIS. Male. Black. 50s-60s. Owner of a Pittsburgh diner – once flourishing, now quite empty. Memphis is estranged from his wife of 22 years. The restaurant is struggling financially, and though there are potential buyers, he stubbornly refuses to accept anything less than his asking price of twenty-five thousand dollars. He was forced out of his plot of land in Jackson, MO more than thirty years ago and still fantasizes about his return. Hardworking, honest, logical, and slightly embittered.
WOLF. Male. Black. 30s-40s. Notorious and popular as the community’s numbers runner. Much to Memphis’ frustration, he uses the restaurant’s telephone as his personal business line. Struggles to find female companionship, possibly a philanderer. A hustler, slick, observant, and critical.
RISA. Female. Black. 20s-30s. Working as a waitress in Memphis’ restaurant. Young and in control of her body and womanhood, she has scarred her legs with a razor in an act of defiance. She is often acutely aware of the emotional needs of the patrons and shows particular care for the downtrodden. Empathetic, self-assured, determined.
HOLLOWAY. Male. Black. 60s-70s, an elder at Memphis’ restaurant who always has a piece of advice for anyone who walks in, whether or not they're asking. Knows everything about everyone. Possesses a spiritual perspective on things and pursues life with zest and vigor. A long-time follower of Aunt Esther, the 349 year-old seer who lives up the road.
STERLING. Male. Black. 30s. Recently released from a five-year stint in a penitentiary for a bank robbery. Perpetually down on his luck, often of his own (un)doing. Possesses a straightforward manner, and a charming mix of naivete and optimism. Self-assured but not self-aware. Is moved by Malcolm X and the Black Power movement, and often tries to enlist Risa and others in whatever he is passionate about.
HAMBONE. Male. Black. Late 40s-50s Singularly focused on getting repayment for work he did many years prior. The payment was in the form of a ham. The injustices he has faced have contributed to the decline of his mental state. The majority of his speech is a variation of “He gonna give me my ham,” though Sterling attempts to teach him new phrases centered around Black Power.
WEST. Male. Black. 60s. Owns the funeral home across from Memphis’ restaurant. The funeral home is one of the few profitable businesses in Pittsburgh, and West works hard to keep it that way. Widower, dresses in all black. Overwhelmed by grief, he has “allowed his love of money to overshadow other possibilities of life” following the death of his wife.

Reconnects with Jenny, an ex-fling and her mother’s newest assistant, when Estella makes a surprise visit to Miami.
CAROLINA. Female. Cuban-American. Late 20s. Born in Miami. A passionate and optimistic painter, and an intern at Studio Six. She is currently pursuing her MFA; her most recent series of paintings is called “Puertas: Doors of Cuba” which she hopes will catalyze her success. She is dating Juan, a Miami-Dade police officer, and recently found out that they are expecting. Dresses like she’s on Spring Breakers.
JUAN. Male. Colombian. Late 20s. Born in Medellín but moved to Miami with his grandmother at a very young age. Miami-Dade police officer. Well-intentioned, but slightly oblivious. A gym bro who still lives with his mamita. Caro’s boyfriend.
ESTELLA. CAST. Female. Colombian. Mid 50s. Born in Medellín, lives in LA. A movie star and an oft absent mother to Mariana. Casually elegant. Brilliant sense of humor. Visits Miami seeking help from her daughter at a time when both mother and daughter are in crisis.
