Breakdown

All roles have been CAST.

Seeking actor/singers for possible replacements.
While understudies will be cast from the ensemble, actors auditioning here may also be considered for understudies.

JACK SINGER
Male, 30s, Caucasian. He has serious commitment issues, due to a pledge extorted from him by his dying mother. He’s funny and high strung, and he’s about to get in way over his head. Strong, high baritone or second tenor to high A, with great pop sensibilities and yet can really deliver a lyric (very Jason Robert Brown himself). Besides big moments, also needs to deliver the major, tender, heart-breaking ballad. This is a heavy singing track. Should also move well and have great physicality. PRINCIPAL (THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST)

BETSY
Female, 30s, Caucasian. She’s been Jack’s fiancé for five years. Betsy’s a teacher, with great patience and understanding—up to a point. She passes that point in the course of the show. She sings and dances very, very well. Extremely strong, thrilling Soprano/Belt. Frankly, should be a first-class voice (typical of Jason Robert Brown writing for women) - low F# to belted E. This is a heavy singing track. PRINCIPAL (THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST)

TOMMY KORMAN
Male, late 50s, Caucasian. He’s a professional gambler with no discernible scruples. A widow with grown children, he is also a hopeless romantic who sees in Betsy his opportunity for a new start in life. Big, authoritative baritone with strong two-octave range and yet suave, seductive, jazzy sensibilities. Low F#/G to high G. Big vocal track. PRINCIPAL (THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST)

JOHNY SANDWICH
Male, 40s, Caucasian. Tommy’s aide-de-camp. He is intensely loyal, prone to overeating and saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. He is not highly intelligent, but that fact doesn’t bother him in the slightest. Character singer. Very little singing, but needs to be comfortable carrying a tune nevertheless. PRINCIPAL (THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST)

BEA SINGER
Female, 50s, Caucasian. Jack’s mother. The fact that she’s dead doesn’t keep her from continuing to play a central role in Jack’s life. Her ability to provoke massive guilt is breathtaking. Very strong, impressive, dominating belt. Low G# to belted E. PRINCIPAL (THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST)

[BUDDY ROCKY/ROY BACON] Male, late 30s – 40s, Caucasian. Two sides of a very shiny coin. Buddy Rocky is the echt Vegas lounge singer; beneath his slick veneer is yet another slick veneer. Roy Bacon is the shit-kicking head of the Flying Elvis skydivers. His second act “Higher Love” is “Honeymoon’s” “Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat.” Big baritone with fantastic top notes. Low G to high G. Should be a riveting voice, top to bottom. This is primarily a singing track. Needs to do amazing Las Vegas crooner (ala Steve Lawrence) in Act 1, and the embodiment of Elvis in Act 2. Major singing track! PRINCIPAL (THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST)
