BREAKDOWN
ABASIAMA UFOT - 60’s, Nigerian. A splay-footed, gap-toothed woman. Thinner Ibibio accent. Fluent in both Ibibio and English. Strong, tough, and fiercely protective of her daughters, Iniabasi and Adiagha. Feels regret about sending her daughter Iniabasi back to Nigeria to be raised by her father (Abasiama’s ex-husband) but does her best to put on a brave face.
INIABASI EKPEYOUNG – 36, Nigerian. A bow-legged, gap-toothed woman. Thicker Ibibio accent. Fluent in both Ibibio and English. Excited but also overwhelmed by her trip to America to meet her mother. Sweet, generous, and trying hard to conceal the resentment she feels towards her mother for sending her away as a child.
ADIAGHA UFOT – 30, Nigerian-American. A splay-footed, zaftig, gap-toothed woman. An amalgamated accent [central Massachusetts and Ibibio]. She is fluent in English, hears Ibibio but has a very limited speaking capacity. She is diplomatic, a natural mediator, and has a good sense of humor.
