Prepare a brief traditional musical theatre song showing range. Bring sheet music; a piano accompanist will be provided. Bring a photo/resume stapled together.

Female, 50s – 60s, any ethnicity. A widow in her middle years who has decided to begin her life again. A matchmaker, meddler, opportunist, and life-loving woman. Commanding presence and comic chops. Mezzo with wide vocal range. PRINCIPAL

[HORACE VANDERGELDER]
Male, 50s – 60s, any ethnicity. The proprietor of a Hay & Feed store and a client of Dolly. A well-known half-a-millionaire, he’s a widower, gruff, set in his ways, and authoritative. Baritone. PRINCIPAL

[CORNELIUS HACKL]
Male, 30 – 40, any ethnicity. Vandergelder’s chief clerk who yearns for one exciting day in NYC. Energetic, enthusiastic, and adventurous, he has a sweet innocence about him. He seeks the company of Irene. Tenor with robust sound. PRINCIPAL

[IRENE MOLLOY]
Female, 30 – 40, any ethnicity. A widow, she’s a beautiful, smart, fun-loving milliner with a hat shop in NYC. Dolly has introduced her to Vandergelder, but she yearns for romance. Soprano. PRINCIPAL

[BARNABY TUCKER]
Male, 18 – 22, any ethnicity. An assistant to Cornelius at Vandergelder’s Hay & Feed store. He’s sweet, naïve, energized, and a follower. Strong dancer. Baritone. PRINCIPAL

[MINNIE FAY]
Female, 18 – 22, any ethnicity. A young girl who works as Irene’s assistant in the hat shop. She’s naïve, straightlaced, fresh, and a follower. Strong dancer. Mezzo. PRINCIPAL

[AMBROSE KEMPER]
Male, 18 – 25, any ethnicity. A young and explosive struggling artist seeking to marry Ermengarde. Strong dancer. Tenor. PRINCIPAL

[ERMENGARDE]
Female, 18 – 22, any ethnicity. The young niece of Vandergelder. She cries often and wants her independence and to marry Ambrose. Strong dancer. Mezzo. PRINCIPAL

[ERNESTINA]
Female, 30 -- 50, any ethnicity. Accommodating and eccentric good-time girl in need of Dolly’s matchmaking services and set up on a date with Horace Vandergelder at the Harmonia Gardens Restaurant. Quirky type. Characterful and powerhouse personality. Major comic chops. Strong singer. Movement ability. Before appearing as Ernestina in Act 2, she performs with the ensemble in Act 1. PRINCIPAL

[RUDOLPH]
Male, 40s – 50s, any ethnicity. Character type. Maitre d’ of the Harmonia Gardens restaurant. Proper and commanding. Has a German dialect. Comic chops. Movement ability. Strong singer. Before appearing as Rudolph in Act 2, he performs with the ensemble in Act 1. PRINCIPAL
