VACCINATION INFORMATION: As a condition of employment, the Public will require all employees who report to work on site (either at the Public Theater or any other workspace or performing location) to confirm that they are fully vaccinated (at least 14 days have passed since the date of receiving the final vaccine dose in the COVID-19 vaccine series) and have received an additional dose/booster shot if eligible.

EPA Procedures are in effect for this audition. An Equity Monitor will be provided.

Equity encourages everyone participating in the auditions to wear a two-ply cloth face mask, surgical mask, singer’s mask or respirator (N95, KN95 or KF94). Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas are not recommended. Singer’s masks can be found at www.broadwayreliefproject.com/singersmask.

Equity encourages members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.

SYNOPSIS: A new musical that tells the story of Ali, a young girl growing up in NYC’s Hell’s Kitchen in the 1990s.

The following roles are CAST:

ALI: 18+ to convincingly play 17. Female Identifying. Biracial; her mother is white and her father is Black. Disabled or non-Disabled. A strong, stubborn girl with a rebellious streak.

JERSEY: 40’s. Female Identifying. White. Disabled or non-Disabled. Ali’s mother, raising her as a single mom.

KNUCK: 20’s. Male Identifying. Black. Disabled or non-Disabled. A young man in the neighborhood that Ali falls in love with.

MISS LIZA JANE: 50s. Female Identifying. Black. Disabled or non-Disabled. A longtime resident of Ali’s building who becomes Ali’s piano teacher. Outwardly stern and taciturn, with incredible gravitas and presence.

DAVIS: 40’s. Male Identifying. Black. Disabled or non-Disabled. Ali’s father. A traveling musician, who has been absent for her entire life. Charming and likable.

TINY/ENSEMBLE: 18+ to play late teens/early 20’s. Female Identifying. Black. Disabled or non Disabled. A friend of Ali’s from her Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood.

CRYSTAL/ENSEMBLE: Late 40’s - 50’s. Female Identifying. Black. Disabled or non-Disabled. Ali’s neighbor and a friend of Jersey’s since their teenage years.

SEEKING:

ERICA/ENSEMBLE: Female Identifying. 18+ to play late teens/early 20’s. Any AAPI, Biracial, Black, First Nations, Indigenous, Latine, MENA, Multiracial, or Native ethnicity. Disabled or non-Disabled. A friend of Ali’s from her Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood. Street smart with a sense of humor. A strong singer who is comfortable with R&B/pop/jazz vocals and harmonizing.

MARIA/ENSEMBLE: 40’s-50’s. Female Identifying. Latine. Disabled or non-Disabled. Ali’s neighbor who has known Ali for her entire life. Down to earth, genuine. A New Yorker through and through. A strong singer and mover who is comfortable with R&B/pop/jazz vocals.

RIQ/ENSEMBLE: 20s. Male Identifying. Black. Disabled or non-Disabled. A young guy from Ali’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood. Feels authentically convincing as a young man who grew up–and can hold his own–in a tough neighborhood in NYC in the 90’s. A strong singer and mover who is comfortable with R&B/pop/jazz vocals. Experience with drumming/percussion a plus.

Q-LO/ENSEMBLE: 20s. Male Identifying. Latine. Disabled or non-Disabled. A young guy from Ali’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood. Feels authentically convincing as a young man who grew up–and can hold his own–in a tough neighborhood in NYC in the 90’s. A strong singer and mover who is comfortable with R&B/pop/jazz vocals. Experience with drumming/percussion a plus.

RAY/ENSEMBLE: 40’s. Male Identifying. Black. Disabled or non-Disabled. Ali’s doorman. A large, physically imposing presence, but a kind heart. He looks out for Ali and all the residents of Manhattan Plaza. A strong singer who is comfortable with R&B/pop/jazz vocals.
