Breakdown

General Note: All of the characters in this musical from Kornfield County need a wholesome, down-home sensibility. All of the actors need impeccable comedic instincts and timing. They must all be terrific singers with a Southern/Country feel.

SEEKING:

BUCKY JR.
Early 20s. Handsome, hunky, honest, and stubborn as Misty Mae. Like many straight men, he has a hard time being in touch with his emotions, and the fluster that results is where his comedy comes from. He has a boyish maturity, and is about to grow up quickly. He loves Kornfield County almost as much as he loves Misty Mae. Seeking a strong comedic actor/ terrific singer with a strong Southern/Country feel.

GORDY
Mid/late 20s. Unbelievably handsome, urban, sleek. The face of an angel with the heart of a con man. After years of being battered down by his mother, neither he nor the audience should believe there is any good left of him: we should be as surprised by his change of heart as he is. Seeking a strong comedic actor and terrific singer with a sophisticated, city slicker feel.

JUNIOR
Early 20s. The only thing standing between him and greatness is everyone in the world who is better than him at everything. Like him and everyone else from Kornfield County, Junior has a big heart, but in his case, the difference in size between his heart and his intellect is pronounced. He sees the world with a childlike wisdom that is uniquely his. Seeking a terrific singer with a strong Southern/Country feel. Seeking true comedic actors with a distinctive physicality.

GRANDPA
Late 50s to late 60s. Warm, loving, wholesome, a Buddha with a banjo, he has a sage wisdom and knows more than he let’s on. He embodies the Kornfield County mentality, character and ethos. Seeking a terrific singer with a strong Southern/Country feel.

The following roles have been CAST.
Actors will be considered for possible replacements if needed:

MISTY MAE
ROLE CAST. early 20s. An unlikely combination of sweet, beautiful, radiant, and naïve while also strong and stubborn as a mule. When she sets her mind to something, she is determined to make it work, whether that means leaving Kornfield County or marrying Gordy. Seeking a strong comedic actor/terrific singer with a strong Southern/Country feel.
(Role is cast)

LULU
ROLE CAST. Early 20s. Curvy, sexy, delicious, but still full of that Kornfield County wholesome, down-home sensibility. If she had moved to the big city instead of Misty Mae, she might’ve become a true bombshell, but now, she’s the Kornfield County version of that. Seeking a terrific singer with a strong Southern/Country feel.
(Role is cast)
