Equity actors for roles in HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH.
Actors of all ethnicities, and gender identities are encouraged to submit. In reference to the character descriptions below—most characters we encounter currently are on the binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns and you will see that in the following descriptions. But how ever limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with. We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities. Let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or if there are any accommodations we can provide (Language developed by Kevin Kantor and Emily Tarquin from the Actors Theatre of Louisville).
Auditioners may bring and sing a song in the style of the show (rock / pop rock / punk rock), and/or they may choose one of the provided selections/cuts from the show to perform. Provided sides/cuts can be found at

HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH
SYNOPSIS: From East Berlin to Junction City comes an electric tale of glitter, grit, and gnosis. On a revenge tour across the nation, punk goddess Hedwig Robinson, born Hansel Schmidt, recounts her high-octane journey in search of her other half. With a pulsing rock score, this groundbreaking smash hit musical triumph is for anyone who has felt life gave them an inch when they deserved a mile.
HEDWIG (CAST / seeking understudy) - character pronouns: she/her (genderqueer/genderfluid). 20s 40s. A ‘slip of a girly boy from Communist East Berlin’ turned lead singer and musical genius of the punk rock band ‘The Angry Inch’, on a revenge tour across the nation. Born Hansel Schmidt, Hedwig underwent a botched sex change operation to escape Berlin. A force of nature, Hedwig is equal parts rock goddess, stand-up comedian, cosmic philosopher, and vulnerable human being. Americanized German accent. Includes masculine and feminine presentations.
YITZHAK - character pronouns: he/him (non-binary). 20s-40s. Hedwig’s husband and roadie/back-up singer. A former drag queen who married Hedwig to leave Zagreb. Devoted, loyal, loving, and perhaps more talented than Hedwig - a possibility that causes much strain in their relationship. Bound by the constraints of traditional masculinity, but longs to explore a more feminine side. Unafraid of rebellion in small, controlled doses. Croatian accent. Includes masculine and feminine presentations.
