Three men chew the fat under an old, wide tree. In HANG TIME, we peek into the interiority – the great loves and bitter blues – of Black men in America. Setting the romantic and the macabre in sharp relief, HANG TIME invites the viewer to envisage the living Black body triumphant over the legacy of violence that it holds.
BIRD (M): Black, 60s. A man of few words with a gruff exterior. Has seen some things. Knows to keep his head down. Quiet, settled temperament; has mostly made peace with the world. Mostly. Has a secret, something from his past that haunts him still.
SLIM (M): Black, 40s. The pontificatin' type. Quick to tell you the way of the world. Likes to be the center of attention, but doesn't like to be seen. Fast-talking, hyper-masculine, a palpable effort made to obscure some deep laden disappointment with the way things shook out for him. Good looking, but life has roughed him up some.
BLOOD (M): Black, early 20s. Just coming into himself. A dreamer and deep thinker. Clings to the belief there is a world bigger than the one he’s always known. Sensitive and tender-souled, but observant. Can hold his own with the old heads. Carrying something heavy.
