MAGGIE - Early-20s - mid-40s: Strong and independent to a fault, Maggie is a single mother of three boys: Shug, Tommy and Wee Jimmy. After being widowed while pregnant with her youngest son, she cleans schools to make ends meet and relies on her determination, sense of humor and resilience to push on through. Contemporary Mezzo Soprano. Strong belt to D
SHUG- Late teens - late-20s: The oldest, Shug has had to step up to help support his family. Though a talented musician, his dreams of becoming a rock star in America become less and less of a reality with each passing day. With a propensity for violence and substance abuse, Shug is good at heart but deeply complicated. Rock/Pop Tenor. Strong youthful belt to A
TOMMY - Late teens - late-20s - The golden (middle) child, Tommy is beloved by all who meet him. He’s a star football player (soccer), on the verge of being signed by the Rangers Football Club. Athletic and charming, he’s the family’s hopeful ticket out of poverty and Lanarkshire. Rock/Pop Tenor. Strong youthful belt to A
WEE JIMMY - Mid-teens - mid-20s: The youngest, Wee Jimmy is constantly being knocked around by his older brothers. Smart as they come, he dreams of becoming an engineer. Kind, patient and loyal, Wee Jimmy is the strong and silent type and the kind of boy you want to bring home to your family. Tenor. Strong belt or Mix to G
BETTY - Late-20s - late-40s: Deeply political, Betty is a natural-born activist and a no BS taker. She has no filter and is always trying to get people to face what is really happening in the world around them. Contemporary Mezzo Soprano, strong belt/solid mix to E
SADIE - Late-20s - late-40s: Sadie is always up for a laugh and a party. Though kind-hearted, she sure loves a good piece of juicy gossip and a dirty joke. Contemporary Mezzo Soprano. Strong belt/solid mix to D (Optional flip mix to G)
JEAN - Mid-20s - mid-40s: A gentle soul, Jean tries to see the good in everyone and everything. Though life at home is challenging, she always tries to rise above it and look on the bright side. Contemporary Mezzo Soprano. Strong belt to C
UNCLE CHARLES - Late-20s - late-40s: Maggie’s brother-in-law, Charles is as out and proud as one could be in Scotland in the 1960’s and will take the piss out of anyone, even if it results in a fat lip. A department store window dresser by trade, he is always good for a laugh, despite the hardships he faces daily. Character Tenor/Baritenor
TAM - 30s - 50s: Jean’s husband, he is quick-tempered and carries a deep prejudice towards anyone who is different from him or anyone he sees as a threat to his livelihood. Baritone with rough quality
GEORDIE PARVEN - Late-20s - late-40s: Often the butt of a joke, Geordie’s as good-hearted as they come and fancies two things: Maggie and wearing nothing but a Speedo whenever the sun comes out. Tenor/Baritenor (NOTE: Performer must be comfortable wearing a Speedo)
TESSA - Early-20s - mid-20s: Wee Jimmy’s love interest, she is lovely and tough as nails. Teresa is tired of the sectarian violence that plagues her country and dreams of a better life. Contemporary Mezzo with a strong, youthful head mix. Strong belt/Solid Mix to D
