Due to our repertory casting and the need for all members of our acting company to play several roles, casting will be determined by what is best for the needs of each production and the season as a whole. The Great River Shakespeare Festival is committed to auditioning and hiring performers regardless of age, race, ethnicity, gender-identity, sexual orientation, or disability. ORSINO – Passionate, stubborn, magnetic. Duke of Illyria. Besotted with Olivia. 30s-50s, any race ethnicity, male
OLIVIA – Mercurial, quixotic, and smart. In deep mourning. A Countess. 30s -50s, any ethnicity, female.
MARIA – Very intelligent and sharp. A close confidant to Olivia. Any age, any ethnicity, female or gender non-conforming.
TOBY BELCH – Protective, contrarian, sensitive, a natural leader, always up for a drink and a good time. Olivia’s last remaining family member. Older than Olivia, any ethnicity, any gender identity.
ANDREW AGUECHEEK – Enthusiastic, naïve, malleable, open. Wooer of Olivia. Any age, any ethnicity, male or gender non-conforming.
SEBASTIAN – Big-hearted and adventurous. Twin brother to Viola. 20s-30s, BIPOC, male.
FESTE – Quick-witted and wise, observant, multi-layered. An itinerant fool. Very strong singer. Any age, ethnicity, and gender identity.
ANTONIO – Generous and bold. Friend to Sebastian. Any age, ethnicity, and gender identity.
SEA CAPTAIN – Stalwart and kind. Friend to Viola. Any age, ethnicity and gender identity.

TAMING OF THE SHREW
This exciting adaptation by acclaimed actor/director Lisa Wolpe will re-gender Shakespeare’s characters while largely preserving Shakespeare’s text.
