SEEKING:
***Note: This is an original script by an Emmy Award winning author of the West Wing, Six Feet Under, Mad Men, and Nurse Jackie. The play takes place at the funeral of Richard M. Nixon that historically brought together all five living presidents at the time. All five men are very charismatic and require powerful actors. We are not looking for look-a-likes. We are looking for wonderful actors who can inhabit the roles.***
Seeking:
GERALD FORD
(Male, 81, Caucasian, 6’0”+; looking for actors late 50’s to early 60’s who will age up with prosthetics and make up) The 38th President of the United States. Ford was raised in Michigan and should have a slight Midwestern accent. The play divulges private aspects of President Ford; a man who never wanted to be President. He comes off almost bitter, having been known as “the man who pardoned Nixon.” Ford dreamed of becoming Speaker of the House. He is a begrudging attendant at this event, and is adamant about not delivering a eulogy. Emotionally he is extremely stressed to be in this room and is desperate for a drink throughout the play, but reluctantly abstains in honor of his wife, while acting as bartender for the other attendees in the room.
JIMMY CARTER
(Male, 70, Caucasian, 5’8”-5’10”; looking for actors late 50’s to early 60’s who will age up with prosthetics and make up) The 39th President of the United States. Carter is from Georgia and should have a Georgia accent. As we know from history he was a simple peanut farmer who went on to become President of the United States. He spends a lot of his time these days doing charitable work, especially with Habitat For Humanity. He boldly takes on Reagan for the Iran-Contra Affair.
RONALD REAGAN
(Male,83, Caucasian, 6’0”+; looking for actors late 50’s to early 60’s who will age up with prosthetics and make up) 40th President of the United States. Reagan grew up in the Midwest. He is a former film star and Governor of California. At this stage in Reagan’s life he is showing early signs of Alzheimer’s and dementia is beginning to set in. He is in and out of reality. Still can turn on the good old charm and liven a room with a wink and a smile. He has a wonderful sense of humor.
GEORGE H.W. BUSH
(Male, 70, Caucasian, 6’0”+; looking for actors late 50’s to early 60’s who will age up with prosthetics and make up) 41st President of the United States. Although he was a politician from Texas, Bush grew up in New England and is Ivory League educated. He is still a little bitter about not be elected to a second term and is adjusting to no longer being in office. He still questions whether the mission in Iraq (Dessert Storm) is a complete mistake, liberating Kuwait and not ousting Saddam Hussein.
BILL CLINTON
(Male, 48, Caucasian, 6’0”+) 42nd President of the United States. From Arkansas and has an Arkansas accent. Newly elected President who has only been in office for one year. Clinton is bold, brash, and loves to talk. He looks people in the eye when he speaks to them, but has a habit of invading personal space in an effort to be intimate, however it comes off as intrusive. Happy and excited to be part of this elite club.
