BREAKDOWN
[MICKEY DOBBS]
Male. 35-45. He is a song and dance man of the 1950’s. He is urban, leftist though not overtly political, and very charming. He’s on the brink of having a major career breakthrough with his own comedy show when it is threatened by his being blacklisted. Think Danny Kaye. Actor must have strong comedic chops.
[NATALIE MELTZER]
Female. 25-35. A force of nature, a Jewish New Yorker, she is sexy, strong willed, playful and very persuasive. She is a performer and one of the best voice-over actors of her day She’s also a recruiter for her leftist political groups, landing this role because she’ll use her sexuality and her passions to get who and what she wants. Must be able to sing and dance.
[FRED LANG]
Male. 35-45. He’s an actor and painter. He served in tough combat in the Pacific and because of that mistakenly believes that his patriotism can’t be questioned. He has a strong character and strong sense of duty. He’s also a large personality not afraid to make jokes or to challenge others when necessary.
[BOBBY GERARD]
Male. 28-35. He is a choreographer on the verge of a major career breakthrough. He is cool, intellectual, always in line with his comrades. He has been very active in leftist politics but his intense need for success and his fear that his homosexuality could be revealed to the public make him betray his friends. This role will require strong dance skills, style of Jerome Robbins.
