ANITA Feisty and assertive. She dispenses older sister advice to Maria and tries to shield her from the dangers of the gangs. Bernardo's girlfriend and Maria's friend. Puerto Rican. Female, 25-30 yrs old. Range: F3 - D5
ANYBODYS
A spunky tomboy who is desperate to become a member of the Jets. The other Jets mock her for her ambitions, but generally appreciate her company. Full of energy and heart. Female, 15-25 yrs old. Speaking Role
BERNARDO
A proud, strong, handsome Puerto Rican man. Bernardo seeks to carve out territory as a sense of identity for he and his friends. Maria's brother and Anita's boyfriend. Leader of the Sharks. Male, 25-35 yrs old. Range: Bb2 - Eb4
CHINO
An angry and, at times, naive Shark who turns murderous and vengeful. Suitor to Maria and friend of Bernardo's. Male, 20-25 yrs old. Speaking Role
DETECTIVE SCHRANK A local police detective frustrated by the ongoing violence between the Jets and Sharks. Blunt, brash, and unapologetic.

DOC The owner of the candy store where the Jets hang out. He tries to guide the Jets youthful angst and provides a safe haven for Tony. Old fashioned and wise in his ways. Male, 60-75 yrs old Speaking Role
MARIA
A hopeless romantic and innocent young girl. She falls in love with Tony and finds herself at the center of the violent conflict between the two gangs. Bernardo's sister. Puerto Rican. Female, 18-21 yrs old Range: Bb3 - C6
OFFICER KRUPKE
The local beat cop. He has no patience for the gangs conflict and tries to keep tensions from errupting between them. Regularly mocked by the local gangs. Male, 30-60 yrs old. Speaking Role
RIFF
A spritely, quick-tempered leader. He seeks to eliminate the Sharks and establish his own gang's dominance. Tony's best friend, he is eventually murdered by Bernardo. Male, 25-30 yrs old Range: Bb2 - G4
TONY
A romantic young man and former leader of the Jets, he has found a new lifestyle now. Tony finds himself violently torn between his friendships and love. Falls in love to Maria and meets an untimely death. Genuinely sweet and sincere. Male, 25-30 yrs old Range: Bb2 - Bb4

CHEF LOUIS
The French palace chef, diabolical and violent. A culinary perfectionist with an affinity for blades, seafood in particular. Male, 30-50 yrs old Range: Bb2 - A4
FLOTSAM
An eel and one of Ursula's lackeys. Oily and spineless, he will say anything you want or need to hear. Male, 20-40 yrs old Range: E3 - C5
FLOUNDER
A fish and smitten with Ariel, his best friend. Rambunctious but cautious, fearful of the dangers that lurk in and above the water. Male, 15-20 yrs old Range: A2 - G4
GRIMSBY
Prince Eric's British guardian. Droll, stuffy, and constantly urging Eric towards his royal duties, specifically marriage. Male, 40-60 yrs old Range: C3 - C4
JETSAM
An eel and one of Ursula's lackeys. Oily and spineless, he will say anything you want or need to hear. Male, 20-40 yrs old Range: B2 - A4
KING TRITON
King of the Sea and Ariel's father. Beneath his imposing presence and commanding nature lurks a harried single father who will do anything to protect his daughters. The death of his wife has also given him an irrational fear of humans. Male, 35-45 yrs old Range: Ab2 - F4
PRINCE ERIC
A human monarch who has no interest of taking the crown. A handsome, affable lad with a buoyant, adventurous nature. After Ariel saves his life, he becomes obsessed with finding her and hearing her voice once more. Male, 20-30 yrs old Range: B2 - G4
SCUTTLE
A disheveled seagull and expert in human artifacts. Loudmouthed, optimistic, and a bit ignorant, despite his supposed expertise. Male, 25-40 yrs old Range: C3 - G4
SEBASTIAN
A crab and advisor to King Triton. A musical virtuoso who is constantly distraught from keeping after Ariel. Despite his paranoia, he can't bring himself to stand in Ariel's way. Male, 30-45 yrs old Range: Bb2 - C5
URSULA
The banished Sea Witch and sister of King Triton. Supposedly spurned at childhood, she will use whatever method necessary to steal the kingdom and claim it as her own. Malevolent, calculating, and deceptive. Female, 35-45 yrs old Range: Eb3 - C5

MARK COHEN
Filmmaker and video artist. Knee deep in his own soul-searching, Mark is the typical young artist. He and Roger are roommates in the loft. A bit of a nerd. Male, 20-30 yrs old Range: A2 - G4
MAUREEN JOHNSON
An unpredictably zany performance artist. Maureen oozes sexuality and used to live in the loft. She has recently dumped Mark for Joanne. Female, 20-25 yrs old Range: C4 - F5
MIMI MARQUEZ
An HIV-positive stripper with drug addictions. Slender and sickly, she conceals it all at her job in the local strip club. She lives in the same building as the loft. Female, 18-21 yrs old Range: Eb3 - E5
ROGER DAVIS
A struggling musician and former drug addict. He is reminiscent of Kurt Cobain. Roommates with Mark in the loft and battles with being HIV-positive. Male, 20-25 yrs old Range: F2 - A4
TOM COLLINS
A computer genius and liberal professor. He is a nurturer with a smooth and relaxed disposition. Used to be a roommate in the loft and is HIV-positive. Male, 25-35 yrs old Range: F#2 - A4
