BREAKDOWN
Note: In reference to the descriptions below – these are descriptions of the characters as identified in the script and in collaboration with the creative team. They are not meant to be exhaustive of who should play these roles and we seek to cast expansively and intentionally. We acknowledge the history of systemic exclusionary practices and are working to dismantle barriers to theatre-making and auditioning for performers of all races, ethnicities, national origins, gender expressions, body types, and abilities. We also recognize that most characters are written on the binary (use he/him or she/her pronouns) and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with. As an ADA compliant organization, we welcome performers of all abilities. We are prepared to engage interpreters, utilize captioning, and provide any reasonable accommodations and resources needed in order to cast performers with disabilities.
Seeking:
No roles will be understudied.
DOCTOR VAN HELSING (She/Her/Hers, 40s+) A vampire hunter who has been through it. She’s a bit of a know-it-all. She’s prickly. She’s strong. She’s brilliant. She is a badass on the hunt – and 19th century men do not, as a rule, appreciate it. No specific dialect. Black performers encouraged to submit.
MINA HARKER (She/Her/Hers, 20s) Very smart. Caring. Loyal. Wants to do good. Was raised to be a “Lady,” and is thus suppressing an inner fire that erupts throughout the progression of the play. Great emotional depth, good sense of humor. Secretly an adventurer and fighter. RP dialect. BIPOC performers encouraged to submit.
MARILLA (This Role Has Been Cast)
DRUSILLA (This Role Has Been Cast)
RENFIELD (This Role Has Been Cast)
DRACULA (This Role Has Been Cast)
JONATHAN HARKER (This Role Has Been Cast)
DOCTOR GEORGE SEWARD (This Role Has Been Cast)
