Re: DEATH TAX / AEA Submit
Synopsis: Maxine is rich. Maxine is dying. Maxine believes her estranged daughter, desperate for her inheritance, is paying Nurse Tina to kill her. Tina doesn’t know what Maxine is talking about. But when her sickly patient offers a handsome counter-bribe to keep her alive until the New Year, Tina—in dire financial straits, sees a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Maxine:
Caucasian Female. 80. Elderly, wealthy, near death; has a sweet, enigmatic quality that leaves you feeling unsure of what she says or does, a possible sense of duplicity, she has fierce drive and stamina
Tina/Candice:
African-American Female. 30s. a nurse, Haitian, must have an accent. Appears to be warm and caring but is actually made of steel, she is entirely poker-faced, never gives even a hint of what's going on underneath her calm façade; keenly aware of the class distinction that surrounds her being “foreign”/ actress also plays Candice, an American social worker who is firm, patient and unbending.
Todd/Charley:
Caucasian Male. (age needs to split between 30 and 40) Todd is the kind of guy who doesn’t have an easy time getting a date. He is nervous, eager to please, sees an opportunity and decides to seize it, despite the possibility of serious consequences/ Charley is distressed at suddenly being thrust into a very uncomfortable situation and is unwilling to take action, this actor is your classic idea of “a nice guy”
Daughter:
Caucasian Female. (mid 30) having been estranged from her mother for many years she has developed a thick, pretty tough skin; in fact she even seems slightly “trashy”, and not entirely trust-worthy, she is unrealistic, has a fundamental eccentricity.
