SYNOPSIS: Over letters, phone calls, visits and more, the relationship between a mother and son is traced over fifty years.
LOGLINE: A comical and ardent series of vignettes between an Italian American mother and her gay son chronicling the most sacred and complicated of familial ties. Two-character 90-minute play performed without an intermission.
(UNDERSTUDY: MARIA COLLAVECHIO) Woman, 40s – 60s, white. NOTE: The character ages from 37-76 over the course of the play. Maria is our Mother. Codependently obsessed and involved in the life of her youngest son, Bobby (see below). Opinionated, strong-willed, affectionate yet tough. A survivor and a fixer. Although she has a hard facade, there is an underlying and surprising vulnerability. A powerful stage presence with both excellent comic timing and dramatic command.
(UNDERSTUDY: BOBBY COLLAVECHIO) Man, late 30s – 40s, white. NOTE: The character ages from 8-65 over the course of the play. Bobby is our Son. Handsome, masculine yet boyish. Dependent on the approval and support of his mother, Maria (see above). Constantly getting into trouble. Irresponsible and rudderless. Although he puts on an attractive front, there is a dark insecurity that lies beneath. Excellent comic timing and dramatic depth.
MARIA COLLAVECHIO: Caroline Aaron
BOBBY COLLAVECHIO: Matt Doyle
