SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
Prepare two contrasting pieces, at least one of them Shakespeare with a combined length of less than 3 minutes. Slate at the beginning of the video, stating your name and the pieces you will be doing. Submit video via YouTube,
Vimeo, or Google Drive link and attach headshot and resume. Visit https://cincyshakes.com/auditions/ and
complete the CSC Audition Application form at the bottom of the page. This form will allow you to copy your audition link, upload your headshot/resume, and more.

KING LEAR by William Shakespeare
First Rehearsal, August 16, 2022, Opens September 9, 2022, Closes October 1, 2022
King Lear – The aging King whose children’s refusal to care for him lead him down a path of madness and self-reflection.
Goneril – Lear’s eldest daughter who is as strong as she is conniving. If not for Lear splitting his kingdom three ways, she would have been first in line to rule when he died.
Regan – Lear’s middle daughter, conspires with Goneril to retain power over her father’s kingdom with wit and savage cruelty.
Cordelia – Lear’s youngest daughter, and the favorite child. Smartly aware of the tricks her siblings play to attain her father’s power, she chooses to follow her own course out of genuine love for him.
Earl of Gloucester – Parent to Edgar and Edmund the Bastard, tragically unaware of the mischief happening around them.
Edgar – Gloucester’s legitimate child and heir. After falling victim to Edmund’s deception, they flee into the woods and create a deranged persona named Poor Tom to stay alive.
Edmund – Gloucester’s illegitimate child. A lifetime of being treated as an “other” lead them to deceive family and play on the emotions of women.
Earl of Kent – Lear’s loyal servant. Loves the king so much that even after being banished they put on a disguise to continue to serve Lear.
Fool – Lear’s court jester. Follows Lear out into the wilderness providing advice that is masked in comedic wit.
Duke of Albany – After marrying Goneril, gains tremendous power. Their marriage crumbles as his perceived inaction and meekness enrages Goneril.
Duke of Cornwall – Married to Regan, feels no remorse in assisting his wife gain power by heinous means.
Oswald – Servant to Goneril. Will do anything for Goneril’s attention, which proves fatal.
King of France – Attempts to defend Cordelia’s honor and eventually marries her.
THE LIVING DEAD a World Premiere by Isaiah Reaves based on the film “Night of The Living Dead” by George Romero

Ben – After losing his boyfriend to a zombie attack, he his forced to confront his Blackness while trapped in a house with a mostly white people while they all struggle to survive.
Duane – Ben’s partner. Loves to poke fun at Ben while attempting to be a calming presence.
Barbara – After seeing her brother killed in front of her, is also trapped in the house with Ben and the others.
Nana – Ben’s dead grandmother. She is a spirit that appears to provide Ben with guidance.
Harold – Will do whatever it takes to protect his family from the monsters outside and the strangers within the boarded up house.
Helen – Fights desperately to keep everyone calm under extreme circumstances.
Ava – Child of Helen and Harold who is not allowed to leave the basement because of “an injury”.
Tommy – Helen’s bi-racial child, the deadly circumstances surrounding him only heighten his inner fury against his white family.

Marmie – The matriarch of the March family. A social revolutionary; ahead of her time. Humorous, a warrior that keeps the family together.
Meg March – The oldest March daughter, Marmie’s second in the house, a romantic.
Jo March – The second-to-oldest March daughter. Does not fit comfortably within the given parameters of her given gender role. Extremely ambitious and frustrated by the distance between where she is and where she wants to be.
Beth March – The third March daughter. Very sweet and paralytically shy, hence sheltered by her family.
Amy March – The youngest March daughter. Opinionated and spunky; popular and quite focused on style.
Hannah - Hannah is the March’s longtime housekeeper that takes no nonsense.
Mrs. Mingott – A very wealthy and condescending presence.
Theodore “Laurie” Laurence – Sweet, sensitive young man with charm and a caring demeanor. His fondness for music and his wealthy inheritance conflict with one another as society expects something from him that he does not want for himself.
John Brooks – Laurie’s stiff and awkward tutor, deeply in love with Meg March.
Parrot – Aunt March’s evil, possibly demonic bird.
Mr. Dashwood – A businessman that fancies himself a realist.
Mr. Laurence – Lauries grandfather and a gentleman in the strictest sense. Struggles to express himself.

Cecily Cardew Montcrieff - Self-satisfied, silly, raised on a country estate. Married to Algernon. Former ward of Ernest.
Gwendolen Fairfax Montcrieff - Dictatorial, elegant, raised in the city, convinced of her own perfection. Married to Ernest. Daughter of Lady Bracknell.
Lady Bracknell (Augusta Fairfax) - Mother of Gwendolen, Aunt of Algy and Ernest. Now a widow. A bulldozer.
Frank Teacher - Ambitious, honest to a fault. A third-rate tutor. From the lower middle class, hence his less posh accent.
Algernon Montcrieff - A dandy. Always hungry. Selfish, but loving. Husband to Cecily, younger brother of Ernest.
Ernest Montcrieff (formerly Jack Worthing) - Tries to be upstanding, but not very bright. Husband to Gwendolen, older brother of Algernon.

Christopher Sly – A drunken beggar who is tricked into believing that he is a Lord.
Lord – A hunter who discovers Christopher Sly in a drunken state and uses their authority to play a trick on Christopher.
Hostess – Forced to deal with the drunken behavior of Christopher Sly.
Huntsmen – Agree to assist their Lord in fooling Christopher Sly.
Katherine “Kate” Minola – The eldest and unmarried daughter of Baptista Minola. Her fierce wit and intimidating presence leaves her family and potential suitors quaking in their boots.
Petruchio – The materialistic lover and foe of Kate. Accepts the challenge to “tame” Kate using his entire arsenal of charm and manipulation.
Bianca Minola – Sister to Kate, more in love with love than her sister.
Baptista Minola – Father to Kate and Bianca that is content with offering his daughters up for marriage to any suitor, for the right price.
Lucentio – Willing to risk life and limb for Bianca’s love.
Tranio – Lucentio’s clever servant, while their status is low, their wit allows them to mingle and coerce anyone.
Biondello – Another of Lucentio’s servants but is nowhere near the trickster that Tranio tends to be.
Hortensio – Petruchio’s best friend and another suitor who is blindly in love with Bianca. Does not realize they have no chance to be with Bianca.
Grumio – Petruchio’s foolish servant who takes Petruchio’s words too, too literal.
Vincentio – Lucentio’s gullible father.
Widow – A widow who loves Hortensio with a passion.

Rosalind – Strong, full of charisma and wit. Despite being banished, makes the best out of terrible circumstances.
Orlando – Unschooled, yet still maintains a sense of nobility. Loves Rosalind and is ambitious enough to travel to the forest to find them.
Duke Frederick – Becomes a stern and cold ruler after usurping the throne of their brother Duke Senior.
Duke Senior – Father to Rosalind. Bears a kind and positive disposition despite their unfortunate circumstances.
Celia – Daughter to Duke Frederick, close companion of Rosalind. Has the courage to disobey their father’s wishes and follow Rosalind into the forest.
Touchstone – Duke Frederick’s quick-witted fool. Realizes the wisdom that lies in being considered a fool.
Oliver – Orlando’s older brother. Has a deep hatred for the love their brother receives.
Jaques – A forest dweller with the rest of Duke Senior’s crew. Dwells in melancholy and deep insight about humanity.
Amiens – Lives in the forest with Duke Senior and the others. A fine singer.
Silvius – A shepherd. Loves Phoebe and will do anything for her.
Phebe – A shepherdess. Does not love Silvius. Accepts insult upon insult as a sign of love.
Adam – Orlando’s servant. Willing to go to the ends of the earth with Orlando.
Corin – Silvius’ servant. A true worker that with their age has come an appreciation of the simple things in life.
Audrey – A simple woman that lives on the country side looking for love.
William – A youngster from the country side who is in love with Audrey.
Charles – Known by the court as the best professional wrestler in town.
THE AMEN CORNER by James Baldwin

Margaret Alexander – Pastor of store-front church, struggling to maintain her relationship with her son and her church family’s loyalty.
Odessa – Margaret’s older sister, defends Margaret against the accusations made by the church.
Ida Jackson – A young woman that enters Margaret’s church desperate for help.
Sister Moore – Torn between her loyalty for her Pastor and the frustrations of her fellow congregation.
Sister Boxer – A member of the church who is mighty kind in front of Pastor Margaret, but behind Pastor’s back is a different story.
Brother Boxer – Spreads rumors amongst his fellow church goers about Pastor Margaret’s family.
David – Margaret’s teenage son who is growing tired of how his mother wants him to be raised.
Luke – Margaret’s estranged husband. His re-emergence in Margaret and David’s life creates conflict for their relationship.
Sister Sally – Easily swayed by members of the church to go against Pastor Margaret’s leadership.
Sister Douglass – The eldest member of the church who tries to play peacekeeper amongst the divided congregation.
Sister Rice – Refuses to have any ill will toward Pastor Margaret.
Brother Davis – Member of the choir/congregation. Their voice is used to uplift the congregation during service.
Brother Washington – Member of the choir/congregation. Their voice is used to uplift the congregation during service.
