Character Descriptions:
Kaneisha: (She/her). Late 20s- mid 30s. Black/ African-American. She has dark skin and is from the American South. Kaneisha is unafraid of what she knows she wants. Self-aware and cognizant of human psychology. Contains simulated acts of a sexual nature. (Offer is out for this role)

Jim: (He/him). Mid 30s- early 40s. Caucasian. British. Inheritor of more than he knows how to handle. Most content when in control of a situation and easily flustered when asked to step outside his comfort zone. Nudity is required and there are simulated acts of a sexual nature.

Teá: (She/her). Mid 20s, of mixed Black and white ancestry. Teá is studied in her Black and her white. Supportive and empathetic but still learning.

Alana: (She/her). Mid 30s- early 40s. Caucasian. Alana is a woman who wants more than the world sees fit to give her. Alana is hyper-aware and hungry to talk about her own experience. Contains simulated acts of a sexual nature.

Gary: (He/him). Late 20s- early 30s. Black/ African-American. A dark, Black man whose life has been lived with the full trauma of his color. Nudity is required (Gary will be down to underwear for the majority of the first act) and there are simulated acts of a sexual nature. Actors who identify as LGBTQ+ are strongly encouraged to submit.

Patricia: (She/her). 30s-40s. Any ethnicity, identifies as non-white. A light Brown woman who knows many lives. Passionate about her work but able to keep a distance.

Phillip: (He/him). 30s. Of mixed Black and white ancestry. He considers himself a person who is neither Black nor white and is exploring his place in the world. Will learn a phrase on the violin. Nudity is required and there are simulated acts of a sexual nature.

Dustin: (He/him). Late 20s- early 30s. Any ethnicity, identifies as non-white and non-Black. Hungers for recognition. White passing and thus feels erased by a society that does not recognize his racial identity. Nudity is required (actor will be down to underwear for the majority of the first act) and there are simulated acts of a sexual nature.

Guy Jacobs (he/him) a thirtyish Black man; costume designer at The Cotton Club; an openly gay man who refuses to apologize for who he is to anybody. Ethnicity: Black / African Descent

Delia Patterson (she/her) a twenty-five-year-old Black woman; social worker on staff at The Margaret Sanger family planning clinics; a dedicated professional who has likely never been in love. Ethnicity: Black / African Descent

Sam Thomas (he/him) a forty-year-old doctor at Harlem Hospital; a hardworking man who is also the life of the party and will find any reason to celebrate. Ethnicity: Black / African Descent

Leland Cunningham- (he/him) a twenty-eight-year-old Black man from Alabama; a six-week resident of Harlem; a God-fearing man who is quick to judge anything outside of what he’s been taught or believes. Ethnicity: Black / African Descent

Shawn: (He/Him) Black, ages 21–33 over the course of the play. Cleveland native. Long suffering local sports fan. Excited about what Lebron James will do for the hometown basketball team, the Cleveland Cavaliers. Moves to LA and becomes successful writer. Ambitious and motivated.

Matt: (He/Him) White, ages 21-33 over the course of the play. Cleveland native. Long suffering local sports fan. Excited about what Lebron James will do for the hometown basketball team, the Cleveland Cavaliers. Works at a small, family-owned business. Decides to stay in Cleveland. Informal and slightly disheveled. A bit disappointed with his life.

TIME: Early December 2016. Post-election and pre-inauguration of Trump. The world feels different. Scarier. It’s around 11 pm. The action of this piece unfolds in real time.
PLACE: La Puente, California. The living space of ALMA & ANGEL’s one-bedroom apartment. On the 2nd floor of an apartment complex, where you kinda know who your neighbors are but not really…really, you just know what they look like.

SEEKING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:
ALMA – Female, Pronouns: she, her, 34
Mexicana undocumented immigrant living in the United State. She is a paradox, having been a teen mom, she had to grow up quickly but never quite matured into the role of “mother.”

ANGEL - Female, Pronouns: she, her, 17
She is Alma’s daughter and a United States citizen. A high school senior with a really bad case of senioritis. She is an old soul.

Tambo and Bones are two characters trapped in a minstrel show. It's mad hard to feel like a real person when you're trapped in a minstrel show. Their escape plan: get out, get bank, get even. A rags-to-riches hip-hop journey, Tambo & Bones roasts America’s racist past, wrestles America’s racist present, and explodes America’s post-racial future — where what’s at stake, for those deemed less-than-human, is the fate of humanity itself.
