Visit http://mnmtheatre.org/audition and click the “Schedule an Audition Appointment” link to sign up for an audition time. No video submissions will be accepted from out-of-town actors; all actors must be able to be local hires. Email audition@mnmtheatre.org with questions.

Equity and non-equity actor/singers who move well for various roles in Cabaret. See breakdown.

PREPARATION

Everyone should also be prepared to sing additional songs from your audition book if requested. Bring one copy of your headshot and resume stapled together. If you are not singing from the score, bring sheet music in your key. An accompanist will be provided.

Actors auditioning for specific roles should please prepare the material listed for that role in the breakdown section (you may not be asked to sing both selections:)

- Sally Bowles – “Maybe This Time” and “Cabaret”
- Fraulein Schneider – “So What” and “What Would You Do”
- Herr Schultz – “It Couldn’t Please Me More” and “Married”
- Fraulein Kost – “Tomorrow Belongs to Me” and a one-minute dramatic monologue in the style/period of the show and character
- Ernst Ludwig – a one-minute dramatic monologue in the style/period of the show and character, and a one-minute cut of an appropriate, traditional musical theatre song of your choice (you may sing from the score if you wish)
- Cliff Bradshaw – a one-minute dramatic monologue in the style/period of the show and character, and a one-minute cut of an appropriate, traditional musical theatre song of your choice (you may sing from the score if you wish)
- All ensemble roles – a one-minute cut of an appropriate, traditional musical theatre song of your choice that shows character and style (you may sing from the score if you wish)

SEEKING

Emcee – any gender/ethnicity/age; the omnipotent and omnipresent MC at the Kit Kat Klub; a sexy, gritty, charming, sinister, and androgynous chameleon with a riveting personality and a snide and profoundly sad awareness of the world; strong actor/singer/dancer who can speak with an authentic German dialect

Sally Bowles – female, late 20s-early 30s; the headliner at the Kit Kat Klub; a damaged, fragile, and deeply vulnerable British cabaret performer who hides behind a cavalier and free-spirited façade of sex, drugs, and desperate frivolity; strong actor/singer/dancer with undeniable star power who can speak with an authentic British dialect

Cliff Bradshaw – male, late 20s-early 30s; a kind, bookish, quiet, charming, American writer with a genuine curiosity, a keen eye for observation, and a deep and turbulent yearning underneath his relentless, almost boring practicality; strong actor with a steady, affable presence, an easy, disarming smile, and a raw, accessible vulnerability

Ernst Ludwig – male, 40s-50s; a charming, self-conscious, sometimes savvy, somewhat sleezy, and unabashedly opportunistic weasel who knows where to hang his hat; the first to hitch his wagon to Hitler’s rising Nazi party; a strong actor who can speak with an authentic German dialect

Fraulein Schneider – female, 60s-70s; a staunch, no-nonsense, yet genuinely warm and kind-hearted German battle-ax of a woman who knows who she is even while she secretly yearns for more; a strong actor/singer who can easily access great depth of vulnerability and who can speak with an authentic German dialect

Herr Schultz – male, 60s-70s; a charming, warm, genuine, kind-hearted, easy-going, hopelessly-romantic, and naïvely-optimistic German-Jewish gentleman; a strong actor/singer who can speak with an authentic German dialect

Fraulein Kost/Chanteuse – female, 30s; a worn, weathered, and somewhat cynical prostitute who is on the cusp of aging out of her usual client base; the kind of brow-beaten, down-trodden, but scrappy and nationalistic German citizen who became easily swayed to the Nazi cause; a strong actor/singer who can speak with an authentic German dialect

Max/Ensemble – male, 30s-40s; the sardonic, hard-edged, tough, overbearing, and dirty-sexy bad-boy part owner of the Kit Kat Klub; strong actor/singer who can speak with an authentic German dialect

Bobby/Ensemble – male, 20s-30s; a sexy, free-wheeling, flamboyant, and flirtatious gay chorus boy/waiter at the Kit Kat Klub; once had a fling with Cliff at a clandestine gay bar in England; a strong actor/singer/dancer who is comfortable with drag, partial nudity, and who can speak with an authentic German dialect
