BREAKDOWN

BAZ Theatrical in association with FOR THE RECORD is casting for the Las Vegas company of BAZ, presented at the Palazzo Theatre. Inspired by the star-crossed lovers in three of Baz Luhrmann’s films: Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge!, & The Great Gatsby with choreography inspired by Strictly Ballroom.

Seeking all roles:

[SATINE] (mid 20s to early 30s. Physicality – lean / sexy) The star of the Moulin Rouge. Her musical selections include Fly Away” and “Lady Marmalade”. Must be able to belt high note E and G.

[DAISY] (20s. Physicality – lean stature) Gatsby’s long lost love. Musical selections include “Over the Love and “Everybody’s Free”. The high belt note needed is F.

[JULIET] (18-25) Shakespeare’s most famous ingénue, she should also bring meaning to Shakespeare’s language. Musical selections include “Where the Wind Blows” and “#1 Crush”.

[CHRISTIAN] (mid 20s-early 30s) The impossibly earnest writer whose poetry wins the heart of Satine at the Moulin Rouge. Vocally looking for very high pop-rock tenors who can sing “Roxanne” in Sting’s original key many times a week. Must have a high belt C flat (b) full voice.

[GATSBY] (late 20s-mid 30s) Classically handsome and debonaire with the old-fashioned good looks of an original Hollywood movie star. Vocally pure sound like Michael Buble style pop tenor with a solid A. Song selections include “Back to Black”.

[ROMEO] (18-25) He should also bring meaning to Shakespeare’s language. A pretty boy who uses a dark, almost criminal edge to cover a raw, open heart. Vocally he is an indie rock tenor with an A flat. Song selections include Jack Black’s “Love is Blindness” and “Your Song”.

[ZIDLER/MAESTRO] (Any age over 30 – Any build) Our esteemed host and Master of Ceremonies, this is the character that speaks and associates most directly with the audience. He is a one-man show. This role also plays Friar Laurence in R + J so some experience with classical text would be good. Musical selection includes “Young Hearts” and “Like a Virgin”.

[MYRTLE & SATIE] (18-mid 30s) The Flapper Girls, The “Diamond Dog” Can-Can dancers of the Moulin Rouge, and party-goers at the Capulet Ball. Most importantly, these roles will cover the lead female roles - Satine, Juliet, Daisy, & Fran - so true triple threats are required. Belt to F or G.

[HENRI & ROWDIE] (18-mid 30s) The Charleston Charlies, Johns at the Moulin Rouge, and the rival gangs of Montagues and Capulets. Most importantly, these roles will cover the lead male roles - Gatsby, Christian, Romeo, Zidler, & Scott - so true triple threats are required. Both pop tenors with solid A’s. Rowdie also requires higher level in dance.

[FRAN & SCOTT] (20-30) Professional level ballroom dancers with strong acting ability. Musical theatre experience is a plus.
